Just when you thought is was a nothing week in Jayland we get this. I understand that Ansberg was not exactly communicating with Cito and or visa versa so something had to give. Not really a surprise given the smoke from last month.

I wonder if Cito makes it through November.

If 2010 is his last year either way why wouldn't we bring in a guy who's capable of working with the players for a number of years, especially if we choose to rebuild, Cito just seems obsolete.

Did Arnsberg quit or really get fired? Because nothing i've read has said either.

"I wonder if Cito makes it through November."

Why? You actually think we'd reshuffle our entire coaching staff and then fire Cito, bring in another manager, and let him replace all these new guys with his own?

Nothing about the way the situation was handled is exactly by the book. Who fires a Gm then Promotes a new GM while looking for a new President. Beeston was firm when interviewed that when AA was promoted he did not make up his mind to stay on, that it was a decision made much later.

And then there's the statements made by AA.

First he was firm in saying Gaston would be the coach next year when he was first promoted.

The he started talking about how he's going to assess every part of the organization, Gaston included.

Yes, it would seem that he's decided to stick with Cito and replace any abrasive characters that were surrounding him.

It's a gut feeling, something smells off, still.

Apparently Gaston has signed a 5 year deal, he'll be manager in 2010 and then remain on as a consultant for 4 more seasons ( I didn't realize an extension of any sort was part of these moves)

I suppose if you don't have your guy available you stick with him.

I just think it's dumb, to keep a guy around who absolutely, you know is going to be temporary in that role.

I don't know, but there was something about Houston getting permission to speak to him. That makes me think Arnsberg took another job, rather than got fired.

I like these changes. Langford is as good as Arnsberg and if he was the pain in Cito's *$$ last year its good he is gone. Murphy should be a solid batting coach so I hear. Butter is best at 3rd and working with the INF. Walton I don't know much about, my first thought was why not Langford right into Arnsberg spot but they should know why they did what they did. Both together will help a young staff. Cito can still offer a professional work ethic within these guys and that won't hurt a team of young players. I think what you smell is a rebuilding year coming on.

Blah rebuilding is a shitt_y way to go , but you're right seems likely now with Arnsberg gone and Cito staying on for his final year of his contract.. (I guess a shitt_y manager and a shitt_y team go together tho).

But seriously Can we not cancel next season Lol? I mean, I am just sick of this losing

I'd have no problem if we spent 100+million and didn't make the post season because it at least shows ownership cares, but cutting payroll after what? 16 str8 years of losing is an awful message to send to an already shrinking fan base. :/

I don't think a rebuild means cancelling the season, or is sending a terrible message. It seema like management is rebuilding and fixing a lot of problems in the process. There's no reason to believe rebuilding won't involve the arrival of some exciting young players who will attract fans.

I'm looking forward to seeing Snider have a breakout year with the bat, and Marcum's return to the rotation among other things. I'm doing that without expectation of the team making the playoffs.

Welcome to the Board, BTW. Can we call you "user"? ;)

wht !!!! i can't believe it .. i thought cito will be shown the door cuz more than all 90% of the team liked arsneberg.. he corrected Romero and helped Halladay alot n now its matter of time before we hear wholesome changes in the team and next thing u know Halladay packing his bag to get to another team and we fans will witness another shitt_y season where we will be 4th ..... i mean i was hoping to somehow we compete next yr or atleast try to with 120 payroll

i m pretty sure the excuses of Tenance retiring and Brad Arnesberg leaving is just to cover the ugly firing story

is there hope for jays

I'm interested in seeing if the percentage of injuries to pitchers goes down in toronto and up in houston.
find out if its mechanics or environment that has accounted for all these injuries the past couple years.
how many tommy johns and shoulder labrum tears have there been??

Cito and his clan have the science of hitting down without doubt, in my mind Cito tends to keep starters in too long (except when he pulled Doc down the stretch, scratches head) and uses the same relievers too often. I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if that isn't at the root of the Ansberg/Gaston parting of the ways. He all but cut Hentgens career short as well as Duane Wards. But these guys wanted the ball and Cito gave it too them more times then he maybe should have.

That said, I agree with you that Cito keeps a loose yet professional clubhouse and is good for young players if he is given the directive to play the kids. I think Cito is a class act and it would have a positive influence on the kids if they decide to go into rebuild mode.

See For me i'd rather the Jays cancel next season(if indeed a rebuild is going to happen) and not put fans like me threw the torcher of watching yet again an another losing season :) I mean, personally I am sick of watching our kids and injured players try and breakout we done that too much in the past! It really get boring for me Lol I am need of a winner it's been way too long. All's i want is Rogers to spend money now and make it watchable year of baseball.

BTW, thanks for the Welcome OTM and sure you can call me "user" :)
