"The owners have stated that they will build a privately financed stadium in San Jose if the City can provide the land and infrastructure. They have stated that there are no sites available in Oakland so they have to go somewhere else. They are wrong."
"There are in fact several sites in Oakland near the water that would work. If the owners would make an honest and concerted effort to work with the City. I believe the ball park could (and should) be in Oakland. I am convinced a destination stadium would transform A's attendance like Pac Bell did for the Giants (everyone seems to forget that NOONE went to Candlestick....."
Please identify the sites in Oakland near the water that would work. The silence from the City of Oakland speaks volumes, while Mayor Chuck Reed of San Jose has identified their site for the A's and is in the process of purchasing the land, right next door to rail access, Dellums says nothing. If the politicians in Oakland want to keep one of the more storied franchises in major league history, they need to fight for it. I hear what you are saying, believe me, and I live in Sunnyvale attending 20+ A's games annualy since 1969. A waterfront site would be great, overlooking the bay, but exactly where? The time for talking is past, action is what is needed, Oakland must present a concrete proposal, no more meetings and asking for co-operation from the A's. If Dellums were to go before the camera's and say, "here is the land, waterfront land with a great view, and the infrastructure, all provided by the City of Oakland, signed, sealed, and delivered," that would put immense pressure on MLB and Fisher. Maybe Dellums realizes Oakland does not have the financial means to keep the A's, but at least fight for them. I ask again, please identlfy exactly the sites in Oakland near the water, sites that the City of Oakland would donate along with
needed infrastructure.
I have been driving up to Oakland for years to see the A's, and if a new stadium was in Oakland I would still drive up, so it really does not make any difference to me. Counting on the Giants so called "rights' to stop the San Jose move may work out, but then what? Fisher will not come begging to Dellums, once again, it is up to The City of Oakland, right now.
