Why all the love for Tony and Dave? They were handed the best team in baseball for three years running and could only win it once. They've been in St Louis for line 15 years and as far as I can recall they won once. Not to minimize their accomplishment but they got a degree of luck and momentum going into the playoff. And of course this year they added Holliday to protect Pujols and still couldn't get past the first round.

I don't think they're geared to groom a young team. One or two maybe but not a whole team of youngsters. Remember why they left in the first place? Because the team was rebuilding after the late 80's dynasty and he didn't want to be managing a team rebuilding.

Are they good? Yes. Are they THAT good? I don't think they're the best... But that's only my opinion...

Welp LaRussa stays in St Lou and Mark McGwire joins him as hitting coach. What would be nice? The A's hire Carney Lansford as personal fielding instructor for Brett Wallace.

Why? You've already got Chavez on the roster. He's a better fielder than Lansford. You're going to have to pay him no matter what. Why not let Wallace learn from him. Wallace already idolizes Chavez.

But it may not be bad idea to bring Lansford in as roving hitting instructor.......
