If you cannot describe what you are talking about, assume that nobody knows what you're talking about. I can't watch youtube on my dial-up connection. Blind people also struggle with youtube at times.

I can describe how Jay Howell cheated in the NLCS in '88 by using pine-tar on the ball.

Game 3

Saturday, October 8, 1988 at Shea Stadium in Queens, New York

The Dodgers turned to closer Jay Howell in the bottom of the eighth. Howell ran a three ball, two strike count to McReynolds leading off the inning. Suddenly, Mets Manager Davey Johnson came out of the dugout, and asked Umpire Harry Wendelstedt to inspect Howell's glove for an illegal substance. Sure enough, Howell was found to have pine tar on his glove, and he was immediately ejected from the game, and would later be suspended for the remainder of the series.

(stole it from wiki)

Can you describe what you are talking about, for text-only readers?

Really, I listened to all the games and there was no mention of pitchers cheating.

In '88 the radio announcers mentioned the pine tar.

I found this on a nearby youtube page.

www.youtube.com/watch?v=1X4n_FsdQqg&feature=related

It shows a video of our Bailey running to cover home and tossing something away.

The video is grainy and the image is reversed, so it is not credible...don't believe everything you see on youtube or hear from Jon Miller & Joe Morgan.

here's the deal. i'm watching yankees whitesox august 30,2009. alfredo aceves is pitching to carlos quinton. its a day game and i see this wet substance almost painted onto the right side back quarter brim of aceves' hat. it can only be seen reflecting on the dark blue hat as the angle of sunlight allows. (assisted by the television close up). the pitcher proceeds to "dab" his middle and index finger on the questionable area while standing on the rubber. yankee fans have said to me that he has done this all year! i find it interesting that since this video has grown in interest, specifically in the last two weeks, he discontinued this ritual and subsequently has fallen apart compared to his yearlong statistics. coincidence? ninety percent of the comments after five thousand views of this video have agreed that this is very questionable.

Gosh, fella. This is the first I've heard of it. Ken and Vince never mentioned it once. Are you sure it happened? Video, especially on youtube, can be bogued up pretty well. I mean, if a Yankee pitcher has been using a substance since August or sooner, wouldn't we have heard of it? We've heard about the Rodriguez fellow and his substance use, but not this guy? Have you looked at snopes.com? Maybe you've been hoaxed. Truthfully, as an A's fan, I don't pay much attention to the Yankees. They're horrid, you know. Just dreadful.

i saw it on live television, . i think the sun angle from the day game, and the close up finally revealed his secret by coincidence this one time! i dont know. i still think it is odd that he has discontinued this practice and has imploded in his last two games.

"They're horrid, you know. Just dreadful."

What team are you watching? The Yankees have 26 World Championships and they won 103 games in 2009.

The 1962 Mets were dreadful. They lost 120 games.

Confused by your assessment of the Yanks...
