There's no point in getting him. Getting him won't help our chances of making the playoffs. We need to focus more on getting prospects. All these FA forms are pointless to have. We definitely won't be a playoff team next season. Who knows how many seasons it will be until we are.

Crazy not to?! Why?! Its more like common sense to not get him or even try. He'll be pointless to have. Getting him won't help our chances of making the playoffs. We need to focus more on getting prospects. All these FA forms are pointless to have. We definitely won't be a playoff team next season. Who knows how many seasons it will be until we are.

We still have to field a team whether we make the playoffs or not. As long as we don't dole out any more 100M dollar deals I don't see anything wrong with a few random FA signings.

I understand, but it doesn't matter who we sign. As long as they're cheap.

"We definitely won't be a playoff team next season."

We won't be if we focus on getting more prospects. We can contend with some well-spent free agent money however, and Myers could be a solid #3 for us. We can't just pick prospects off the nearest Talent Tree, you have to have desirable and MOVABLE talent, and right now our desirable talent (Oswalt, Berkman, Lee) is not movable.

They've just got to take advantage of the draft pick exemption they earned with last year's record. Make it worthwhile.

Myers is not a solid #3, and even if he was it wouldn't matter. We're not going to be a playoff team this coming season.

You gloom and doom no hope guys are funny.
We were 1 game back near the end of the season after sweeping the eventual division leader and we have no hope at all and probably won't for many seasons...lol...funny!
The Cards and Phillies were good enough to risk trading for over the top guys and we weren't quite there. We hung in there all season mainly with a below average season from our top offensive and pitching guys. We have hope. I guess I am not like most on here that want a 250 mil payroll and a near guarantee of a championship every year. That to me is boring. I liked the year we had, it was exciting until the very last month. Kinda a bummer with Berkman, Oswalt, Hampton and Oritz not living up to expectations, but no reason to give up on the guys and not think with another good pitcher and possibly a 3rd baseman that we won't have a chance, especially if Berkman and Oswalt do better which they should.

We have a new manager and pitching coach and will undoubtedly add a few pieces so why not lets see what transpires before we condemn the team as losers for many seasons to come?

Resigning Moehler kinda makes me think what you say could be true though.

What?!?!

We had an awful season. We finished 5th place. We were not 1 game back near the end of the season....We finished 74-88. The Wild Card playoff team had 92 victories!...........

You said gloom and doom no hope guys are funny. Well we had common sense to never think we were going to make the playoffs. I knew we would be bad.

There were only 2 surprises. Bourn and Wandy. They were both great.

"You guys that actually have hope for this coming season are pathetic."

So you have to try name calling and get all bent out of shape to prove your point. Is Mclane paying you to paint the ugly picture this early in the offseason this year. Changing the tatics from "we have a competitive team" "to doom and gloom." Possibly so that he wont have to spend any money. Just a thought.

Why do you keep repeating yourself? You posted the same thought like 3 times. I think we got your message.Calm down, take a deep breath.

Even if we don't contend next season, Myers is young enough to possibly contribute by the time our next good team rolls around.

"Myers is not a solid #3"

Myers has been solid for most of his career, and that's pitching in Philly's bandbox of a park. Just getting him out of there will likely improve his numbers significantly (we saw what moving INTO the park did for Ibanez). He's still fairly young, he'd be moving into a more pitcher-friendly park and into a weaker division, it's likely he would show some rebound to his 2005-2007 form.

"and even if he was it wouldn't matter. We're not going to be a playoff team this coming season."

You're saying this based on our bad record this season, which was based on our lack of good talent, ergo adding good talent would improve the record and make us contenders. This isn't rocket science; if you sign good players and fill your holes, you do better.

When the Astros publicly come out and say Lee, Berkman and Oswalt have all been traded then I will be for rebuilding with all the top prospects we will get in return, but that ain't happening and we don't have youngsters good enough to rebuild with. I would rather see us be able to compete and slowly add to the farm like we have been doing the last couple of years. Offer me a slew of good prospects for the above named and I am all over that, but you guys that are just advocating losing and rebuilding without any good prospects to at least make the season fun is a head scratcher.
I know Manzella hitting .240 and stopping an occasional ball hit behind second base is exciting for some more than winning is, but I think us being a game out with a month left in the season is more exciting. We are already using young guys in Bourn, Pence, Norris, Poulino, Towles and others, not to mention Castro soon so why all the talk of every position needing a new mediocre guy when Berkman, Lee and Oswalt aren't going anywhere? Too me it is just a bunch of whining that some Astro fans are so good at doing. Have a good draft, sign a good pitcher or two and add a third baseman and give this new coaching staff a shot. We can have our cake and eat it too by fielding a fun competitive team and rebuilding the farm at the same time, which is the direction I think we are on.
You don't have to gut the entire team and give up to rebuild the farm and with Berkman, Lee and Oswalt we can't even do that anyway, so why all the crying about it. Let's just see what happens.
