That's great news, Marshall. My sister and brother-in-law live in the area. I can't believe this has happened.

The FBI has already released a statement that their is no terrorist nexus. This is a political statement if ever there was one. If there are mass casualties, it's a terrorist incident, whether foreign or domestic.

Looks like 12 dead and 31 injured (latest account)

I agree, this is terrorism...Why the WH has an aversion to (speaking about) terror, terrorists and the war on terror is silly.

It's real big brother stuff coming out of this WH.

Firstly, very glad to hear he's alright.

Secondly, terrorist, in these modern times, has really come to mean someone from another country bent on simply destroying American lives...so at this point, I think it would be better not to call it that; for all we know, this could just be disgruntled soldiers or whatever.

Major Malik Nadal Hassan (primary shooter)

There are domestic terrorists and terrorism. See Oklahoma city and Timothy Mc what's his name.

I know...but that was pre-9/11. I'm just saying, when a person says "this was a terrorist attack", people from the Middle East talking about Allah is now the first thing that comes to mind. Maybe that's unfair, but it's the truth, so I just advise caution with using the term.

Are we sure he was Islamic? Or are we just basing that assumption on his name?

It was reported that he was a recent convert and was known to be upset with his deployment. Why are you so quick to find any alternative to the obvious. Within the Islamic community are terrorists and those who cheer on the terrorists. There are also many who are frightened into silence who are not terrorists, but are too chicken to speak up against the terrorists. I hold them all in contempt.

When you find those who will speak up against the terrorists from within the Muslim community, them I will applaud them. Unfortunately they are far too rare a breed.

Just because he's not linked to Al Quaida, it doesn't mean he's not a Muslim Terrorist.

I wasn't saying any of that, I'm just saying that until we KNOW, it's better not to label him, or anyone else, that's all. You say it was reported, but I've been all over the internet about it, and I have CNN on, and I've heard nothing of the sort so far. I'm not looking for an alternative, I'm just advising caution with the anger and labels until all the facts come to light, that's all. I'm one of the most conservative, anti-Islamic people you'll find on this board, but that doesn't mean I'm ready to go on a flame-spree because a guy has a name that sounds a certain way, I'd rather wait for all the facts before passing judgment.

I only labeled him from reports that he was Muslim, not because his name sounds any which way. I just heard from his cousin that he was NOT a recent convert to Islam, but has always been Muslim. He is also a psychiatrist which should immediately make his state of mind suspect. There is no nut like a trained nut. He is a terrorist because he decided to commit mass murder. He is also Muslim. Therefore he is a Muslim Terrorist. I'm tired of every politician trying to dance around the sensitivities of a Religion which had a great deal of trouble policing itself. There may be good Muslims, but their silence is deafening.

I couldn't agree with you more. I was at work when this happened and a friend of mine called me and told me what was going at Ft. Hood. He later called and told me that the army had confirmed that the shooter was a soldier. I immediately told him, "I'll bet you a dollar to a hole in a donut that the shooter is a muslim." He called me back later and told me that he owes me that hole in a donut.

I understand that two other soldiers are being held. Have you heard anything as to the connection between these two and the shooter? I have bet my friend double or nothing that at least one connection will be that they too are muslims. If I am wrong, then I apologize in advance to those who sympathize with these people and are offended by my comment.

Marshall, I'm glad your son is alright. Secondly, my condolensces to the family members of those killed and injured.

Thirdly, this isn't terrorism, foreign or domestic. This is a case of what the military calls "Conscientious Objector". If you all who have family in the military and are ex-military haven't figured that out yet, shame on you.

Let's not start a panic attack calling something terrorism when it isn't.
