This, according to Yahoo News.

While I strongly disagree with what he said, I would also strongly defend his right to say it. It's called "Freedom of Speech" and is protected by the U.S. Constitution. We still have one, don't we?

But, personally, I wish this guy would once-and-for-all keep his F#$%ing mouth shut.

Not surprised. Ozzie has always had a loud personality, but this may have been too much this time.

I'm not sure you understand what Free Speech means.

The government isn't punishing him, the organization in which he works for is punishing him.

Do you even understand the concept of "Freedom of Speech"?

That says the Government can't stop you for what you say, a private company can do whatever they want.

I agree with you, and I also agree he should have been punished. I'm just saying that he had the "Right" to say what he said.

I have the right to falsely yell FIRE in a crowded movie theater, but, I'm going to suffer the consequences.

Of course I do. And, I agree he should have been punished. I'm just saying he had the "Right" to say what he said, even if it made him sound like an idiot.

I have the right to call my boss an A** Hole to his face. But, I'm also going to suffer the consequences.

He has a right to say whatever he wants. We also have the right to judge him for his comments.

No, you do not. The police will arrest you.

Yes you do.

The Marlins opened their season in a brand new stadium...costing mega, megabucks. They spent a lot of money on free agents like Reyes, Bell. ]

They cannot afford a loose mouth saying things that offend almost the entire Cuban community there...if they boycott the Marlins and sponsors the Marlins will risk going belly-up.

saying stupid and lame things like "loving Fidel Castro" in a place where many of the people have had relatives executed and some STILL inside Fidel's communist prisons leaves the team no choice but to get rid of this stupido, Guillen.

He is suspended for five games but mark this down: Guillen will be fired if the Marlins realize a financial loss later this year. They cannot keep a dummy on their payroll and lose millions and millions. Guillen has lost respect from Miami fans and even many of his players for shooting off his mouth.

This is not just a public relations screwup...it is a hot button socio/political issue. Fidel Castro is the devil himself to the Cubans and Guillen says he "loves him."

Would YOU keep this guy around if it were YOUR call?

No, I wouldn't have hired him in the first place.

>>The Marlins opened their season in a brand new stadium...costing mega, megabucks.<<

Except that the Marlins didn't pay for the stadium, the public mostly did.

>>He is suspended for five games but mark this down: Guillen will be fired if the Marlins realize a financial loss later this year.<<

The Marlins were making a $35-45M profit every year in their old stadium. They won't lose any money this year.

"...Marlins didn't pay for the stadium..."

Didn't say they did. So, what's your point?

"...They won't lose any money this year."

If fans are alienated they WILL lose money. You ignored the free agent commitments. Might as well call themselves "The Calcutta Marlins."

Baseball is a warm season game and Miami's tourist season is best during the cold months. Marlins cannot rely on tourists to take up the fall-off if the locals boycott.

Cannot recall anything dumber than Guillen's remark, can you?

Yes Dodger Al Campanis, and in one day it ruined and stopped his career.

Maybe Ozzie should have compared him to a cockroach, it's hard to get rid of him!

Maybe that's what he was trying to say when he said he admired him!?!

The handwriting is on the wall..Guillen will be fired sooner than later. The fans cannot forget his remark. What marlins ownership does not want is to see fans holding anti-Guillen signs in the stands.

Guillen is toast.

He has since said his comments were "taken out of context". Will someone explain to me how the words "I love Fidel Castro" can be taken out of context?

You mean his "Blacks lack the necessities" comment? If you recall, Ted Coppel actually tried to help Campanis out of the hole he dug for himself, but, he just kept digging himself in deeper.

"Will someone explain to me how the words "I love Fidel Castro" can be taken out of context?"

I know LOL!

The only explanation/excuse is sarcasm. Besides that...?
