That Juan Rivera's is over rated? The guy hits into a MILLION double plays and has never hit 30 Hr in a single season...what if the angels traded him for a prospect then signed Bay or Holliday? seems like a good deal to me...

Doesn't seem like 19 DP over the course of a season is that bad along with a .280+ BA, 25 HRs, 88 RBIs and only 57 strikeouts in over 550 AB. At what we're paying him, he's a bargain.

The prob is that he is streaky and he was definatly cold during the playoffs.

A lot of players were cold during the playoffs. I personally do not like Juan. I will admit that for what the team is paying he is a good solid left fielder and well worth keeping.

i will admit that yes for what we are paying him he is worth it, but if you look at the double plays, the majority of them were with 2 or more runners on. He isnt exactly clutch...

YES I AGREE!

I have always felt he was overrated. I can think of one really big hit that he has ever gotten in the post season. He has slow bat speed. That is why the Yankees gave up on him. Riveria is another guy that fattens up his numbers against weak pitchers.

I think he is a decent player but he is not a guy I want up at the plate with a post season game on the line. I didn't think he would ever hit one out of the infield ini the Yankee series. He has yet to hit a post season homerun in five post seasons.

"he was definatly cold during the playoffs."

There are quite a few players who wore down at the end of the season - Juan, Torii, Napoli, and Bobby - among others. And there's a good reason for it.

For the last 6 weeks of the regular season, Scioscia insisted on playing El Stinko Flailo every day, clogging up the DH position completely - while he was only a .265 BA doinkster over that 6 +weeks. That meant no rest whatsoever for any of the other players who could have used an occasional break.

That, my friends was a typically bone-headed thing for Scioscia to do, and it showed - especially by the postseason.

19 DP is a lot.....?
dont think so.
Rivera fits for now....do you have any other options at the moment that can hit .280/25/90
.......when you do...let us know.
the LAA spended a lot of money in 2009, and .....? they almsot didn't even win the west.....
you people are lock on Holliday and Bay......over Rivera....why..?
Holliday is totally overrated.....if you think Rivera is overrated...think again...so is Bay...even if he is a supposedely a "star"...?
lets do some reserching about those two.....then come back....why dont we...?

The numbers Rivera has are in 138 games, 20 less than the Bay or holliday stats......
yes....definetely ...Bay is better, hits more homers...did you see how many strike outs he had....?
162 strike outs in 156 games.....that's a ton....
if Rivera plays those 20 games..he ends-up with 30 homers and 100 RBI's too....and more hits....and......65 Strike outs...100 less than Bay....
and the money....how much do you think Bay will cost...or Holliday....?
the bif diff i would say is the defense....the range....

Wow, I did not think or know that about his 0 HR is postseason. proves your point - he only hits weak pitchers, cause in playoffs - there are no weak pitchers.

Here we go again blaming Vlad for the others not hitting. It's an old weak argument dude. The ones not hitting had nothing to do with Vlad. Vlad had about the best average during the playoffs if I recall correctly.

If you read my post carefully, I blame Scioscia for ONLY playing Vlad at DH, depriving other players the ability to use the position for a rest every couple of weeks. The rest of the team worked hard the last 6 weeks of the season with a very full schedule. Vladdy clogging up the position, while producing virtual squat was a poor decision on Scioscia's part.

If Vlad had been producing - like a cleanup hitter - over that six weeks, he would have a case. Vladdy wasn't, so Scioscia was dumb to keep him in there, stinking up the position, while overworking the 4 or 5 other players - all of whom were getting tired and declining daily - with no rest stop days at DH.

That's why NEXT year, with Napoli as the primary DH, there will be plenty of ABs for other players who need an occasional break. Napoli, being able to play at least two positions, gives the team that luxury, where El Stinko-Flailo does not.

How about we trade Rivera,GMJ and pay six million of Jrs contract to Tampa for Carl Crawford ? Maybe throw in a prospect like Terry Evans?

To the Giants for a couple of prospects. They need power. I don't have a problem with Rivera's bat, but his defense is aweful. He won't dive. He jogs to the ball. I'd like to see the corner outfielders actually make an attempt for the shallow fly balls.

i say trade rivera and gmj (pay a big load of his contract) then sign Bay...that way we have another garunteed 30+ home run hitter to hit either infront of or behind Morales

< That Juan Rivera's is over rated? >

I'm sure there are those that would agree with you, but if anything, Rivera is under rated. I don't kn0ow what you expect for $5M a year, but 25 or so HR and .280 or AVG, seems like a bargain. People want Bay or Holliday and they will get at least 3 times as much for 30 or so HR and .280 or so AVG. Are 5 more HRS really worth $10M-$15M more?

no but bay has hit 35+ for the past 4 years so thats 10 more homeruns, pluss he is a better fielder and has more speed...so it would maybe be worth it

I was thinking a trade for Crawford would bring the Angels a person who could bat leadoff in case the Angels don't re-sign Figgins. The Angels could then give the 3rd base job to Brandon Wood or sign a free agent/trade for a thirdbaseman.
