What we do in the mean time between now and July is critical if we expect to compete this season. We have to be within 3-4 games of 1st if we expect to have a shot. To do that we have to play better than .500 ball during this stretch against the following opposition:
New York [AL] (3) Road.
Baltimore (3) Road.
Texas (3) Home.
Baltimore (3) Home
LA Dodgers (3) Road.
Colorado (3) Road.
San Diego (3) Home.
San Francisco (3) Home.
Minnesota (3) Road.
Arizona (3) Road.
Chicago [AL] (3) Road.
We dug our own grave up to this point in the season by falling 10 games out before twe hit this stretch. We can't chalk this up solely to the fast start of the 'Sox as we have let quite a few close games escape our grasp and thus we have no breathing room between now and the All-Star break. There is a Silver Lining however should we rebound and meet the lofty goal set forth above.
The 'Sox have a brutal 6 week period from late July through the end of August where they play 2 series each against Boston, New York, Minnesota as well as face Texas in Arlington for a series and visit Baltimore for a series. This timeframe is where we will have an opportunity to either jump into the Division lead or be right there with both Chicago and Minnesota going into September.
The next 6 weeks is the most important part of our schedule to date this season - fail here and the season for all intensive purposes will be over. Play good baseball here and we will still have a shot at the Division in August-September. This 6 week period should be looked upon as an extended playoff run from an attitude perspective. We need to play solid baseball and make good sound decisions. The learning period for this club (first 40 games) is over - it's time to "shiiiiit or get off the pot".
