    • Kendal Volz Announces Retirement

The Arkansas Democrat Gazette reported today that promising AA pitcher Kendal Volz announced his retirement. He was 3-1, 2.10 ERA, and converted 6 of 9 save attempts. He has been on the disabled list since June 5. I'll try to find out more.

With the exception of Wil Myers early in the season, Volz was, in my opinion, the most talented player at NWA this summer. A sad development.

Theres got to be more to it than Volz just getting injured and retiring.

A very odd story...

Very odd indeed. Wonder if it's a Zack Greinke/Danny Duffy situation. Just needs some time away from the game. Though, I don't remember the word 'retirement' used in either one of those situations.

I finally made the trip down to NWA back in may (I had been saying I'd go for the last 4 seasons) and got to see Volz pitch. After Justin Marks threw a great game, Volz and the rest of the pen got lit up like a roman candle. Sad to see a young arm leave. Even more sad to realize that we have nothing to show for the Mike Aviles trade.

It's odd no reason is given despite the muscle tear. I can't find anything on it on the NWA page. Of course when Greinke left, there was not much said.
