when we get to playoffs, we need to have ibanez, chavez and granderson hit all comers right now.

so if we do face lefties in playoffs they will be better.

cano should hit third no matter who pitches.

nix maghee, stewaart, jones, is not strong enough in playoffs.
time to work in phelps more...he just might be a 3 or 4 starter.

time also to either move ichiro to two hole also or bat 9th.

<I'm actually not too sure why Granderson got the day off today..that was kind of a puzzling move. The guy recently just came out of a big slump in a big way. I know there was a lefty on the mound, but Romero kind of sucks and Grandy has virtually no platoon split over the last two years. Chavez getting the off-day makes sense..he's been wretched against lefties for a few years now. With Rodriguez out, I'm cool with Mcgehee and Chavez running a true platoon out there in Rodriguez's absence.

"time also to either move ichiro to two hole also or bat 9th. "
Two hole?! Please tell me you're kidding?! The guy has made more outs than anybody in baseball by MILES over the last two years, and you want to give him MORE plate appearances?!

Joe schedules these days off weeks in advance. They are not affected by previous games like that. Also, Toronto has artificial turf. All the regulars likely will be rested at some point this weekend.

It IS a no-brainer to put a guy like that in that spot.... literally. No brains.

Scary thing is that there ARE teams out there that are close to as poorly run as some of the people on here would do... it's the same ridiculous line of thinking that leads to teams like the 2012 Astros.

One thing that irritates me with the reactionary fans is how focused they are on the few moves that don't work out and "Monday Morning Quarterback" the process as if they knew all along. If you follow a good process through managing a team in this game, the results will bear out. Under Cashman, the Yanks have averaged 98 wins over a fourteen year span and have accumulated four rings, six pennants, and thirteen playoff berths. And they are well on their way to their fifth, seventh, and fourteenth, respectively, this season. You don't get those kind of positively ridiculous results from a guy that doesn't know how to run a team absurdly well.

Pavano wasn't really a bad pickup at the time. I wasn't a HUGE fan of his, but I'm generally more accepting than most of durable, strike-throwing groundball machines that don't miss a ton of bats. That one worked out really poorly, but I liked the process.

Vazquez II was a legit Cy Young candidate the year before, ranking near the top of the league in every important pitching statistic over his 220 innings. Trouble is, he came to NY and lost three miles an hour off his fastball and started throwing it a LOT more. He got his velocity back in Florida and was virtually unbeatable for the second half of last season before promptly retiring out of nowhere. One of the weirder career arcs in recent memory. Nonetheless, considering we got a good lefty reliever and a potential top of the rotation type pitcher for a fourth outfielder and a good prospect, I loved the process there too.

As far as the trade goes, it's pretty tough to judge winners and losers yet, but knowing what we DO know about elite hitting prospects vs. young pitchers with labrum injuries, I'd think it's a better bet that Montero develops into an excellent hitter than Pineda regaining his ace form. I think that even if it works out and Montero stinks while Pineda wins a couple of Cy Youngs for us down the road (which, obviously, I hope is the case), I'm still not a fan of the process. Process-oriented works both ways I suppose. LoL.

its either swisher or ichiro. ichiro is doing okay so far as a yankee, he can do alot if jeter is on.
stay out of double plays, steal and bunt, something this teams lacks, and if not bat him 9th and you have 2 lead off hitters. this stretches out the lineup with out arod. i would like chavez vs all lefties if arod does not come back hes the man. he can hit and play d better than the other guy they picked up.

jeter
ichiro
cano
tex
swisher
granderson
chavez
ibanez
martin

lefty righty stuff with jones , nix and mghee, weakens the lineup..

<i would like chavez vs all lefties if arod does not come back"
And I would like you to think before you post. Chavez is hitting .105 against lefties this season and has a lifetime .307 wOba against them for his career. He should NEVER face a left handed starting pitcher in a playoff situation.

Ichiro for the two hole is a LAUGHABLY bad idea. He doesn't get on base, he doesn't hit for power, and he's actually even got a lower batting average than Nick Swisher (not that batting average counts for shit anyway)

since when do you put a power hitter in the two hole? it doesnt matter what chavez does vs lefties now, he needs to be ready for later. you cannot use nix or mghee just because they are righties. you might as well not bat granderson ever vs lefties. cano should bat third all the time. evven dumb joe batted him lower vs lefties. a good hitter hit vs all comers.

not laughable to have ichiro bat second. its laughable putting tex in the two hole. that would be funny

You don't need to have a power hitter in the two hole. You need to have a GOOD hitter there.

" it doesnt matter what chavez does vs lefties now, he needs to be ready for later."
If a guy can't hit lefties, you aren't going to accomplish anything by continuing to throw him out there to embarrass himself and make a ton of outs, which, given your affinity for moving Ichiro UP in the order, you probably would like.

"its laughable putting tex in the two hole. that would be funny"
Actually, not as much as Ichiro. Teixeira makes a LOT less outs than Suzuki.

Why....? Do everybody else's bench players suddenly turn into HOF'ers?

$$$. Lets see Cashman run the Rays. I like what Cashman has done for the most part, but lets not paint him as a genius here. I mean, in '09 he bought all of the top FA's, what's so brilliant about throwing money around like that?

You can say what you want about Vazquez, and people are still defending the trade, but some of us from day one were adamant in insisting that he didn't have what it takes to pitch in NY, and that's exactly how it panned out, so how is that hindsight?

The argument at that time was that he had a "dead arm" in the second half of 2004. Yeah, ok, well, he was said to have a "dead arm" again in 2010. Should we give him a third chance?

in a game vs toronto ,against a weak lefty, these players are fine. however vs a wilson or solid lefty. you have to have better hitter, you cannot take out a granderson or ichiro because they are left handed.
