Thought that the Yankees finally got rid of pitchers who suffered from mental lapses on the mound but I was wrong. Ivan Nova is proving how he mentally melts under pressure whenever the Yankees give him some run support. I suffered for 3 years watching AJ Burnett be the epitome of failure, don't need to see Ivan Nova pulling the same stunt.

It has to be completely deflating for the rest of the team when they fight to get back into the game or build up a big lead and he can't even maintain it for 1 full inning.

This is the opposite of how he was last year. The kid is very young. If New York doesn't give him a chance like most of this stupid friggen board is asking right now, they will never develop players.

If he continues this then Girardi will have little choice but to send him to the bullpen. If Pettitte comes back just in time it will be a much easier decision for Girardi.

Martins defense was a big reason for that meltdown

Im sure if you ask Nova how he pitched he will say he pitched great.
Hes a legend in his own mind.

It was a bad play by Martin, but it's not his fault that Nova gave up 5 straight hits.

There is either something wrong with his physical health or the pressure of being an everyday starter for the Yankees is getting to him.

Can't blame Martin this inning.

I suffered through watching Ed Whitson as well so you can say three's a charm.

And has reached his peak of being an epic failure for the Yankees.

AJ Burnett is the "epitome of failure", huh? Yeah, tell that to the Pirates. They wouldn't trade their ace pitcher for Sabathia, Nova, Pettitte, and Kuroda, COMBINED. I wish we had a reliable EVERYDAY starter like Burnett has been for the Pirates this year.

Say what you want about him, but he's making a name for himself in Pittsburgh. Of course Yankees fans chased him out of town, and Cashman and the Steinbrenner brothers felt compelled to trade him away before his contract ran out.

Lots of people predicted a sophmore slump for Nova.

They were spot on. But don't start comparing Nova to Burnett.

Burnett is a veteran pitcher who can't focus when the pressure was on.

I was worried that this year Nova could experience a "Sophomore Slump" I've said that countless times. With that said, that's all I really think it is. A year from now he'll be back to the pitcher we've come to love.

Oh yeah and Nova doesn't buckle under the pressure in big games. Just how well was he last year in the playoffs? You're right though, fans should stop comparing Nova to Burnett. AJ Burnett has among the best records in the National League for the Pittsburgh Pirates, and Ivan Nova couldn't buy a win even with the Yankees' offense. You think Burnett misses being a Yankee? Not a chance. So many Yankees fans were dancing in the streets after the Yankees chased him out of town that we couldn't get him back if we wanted to.
