Myers is owed about $4.5-5MM for the rest of this season. Has a $10MM vesting option for next season based on games finished.

Great deal. We desperately needed some veteran bullpen help. I'm so sick of seeing guys like Septimo, Veal, Omogrosso etc. I just wonder if they are going to make him the closer or have him set up Reed. Myers has a 3.52 ERA with 19 saves so far... albeit with fewer strikeout numbers than Reed.

You have only seen veal for not even one appearance and he looked pretty good. I do understand your not wanting to see constant rookies going out there, but we do strike gold sometimes.

I'm confused - how can you see someone for "note even one appearance". If he pitched isn't that one appearance?

With Myers and Crain coming back the bullpen should settle down and return to how they pitched earlier this year. Also, maybe the three week break for Floyd will improve his arm strength. No time for sox fans to give up, lets support this team for a good start this week versus the twins at home. Tiges fans seemed real into the game last night even when they were tied or losing.

gotcha - I wasn't trying to be a smart a--. I didn't see his appearance and though maybe you were talking about seeing him in the bullpen or spring training.

It certainly helps if you keep guys in their roles. Hopefully Thornton/Myers/Crain can handle the 7th/8th innings and leave Reed for the 9th.

If we don't get the offense going and go into the 7th, 8th and 9th with leads it won't make a
difference.

Yeah, but we know this offense is capable of better. Slumps happen and there's no way we're getting a bat to improve it.

The Myers deal is great news; we weren't going to contend with just Thornton and a bunch of rookies, mostly throwing straight fastballs, albeit at high velocity. I would make Myers the closer and Crain the 8th inning guy. Let's go with veterans who change speeds; these are the guys that can clsoe unless you are throwing 100 mph like Chapman. Unfortunately, though, are main problem now is the hitting, not the pitching. It's hard to win scporing ;less than 3 runs a game. There is just no margin for error like the Peavy hit on Berry and the Reed gopher ball to Ross.

Why trade for Myers if you're not going to make him the closer? I'm figuring Myers as the closer with Crain and Thornton in the 8th inning with Reed, Jones, and Santiago in the 7th inning. And then hope Floyd can pitch good and the offense can start to hit. I think the Sox still have a shot at the division, but things need to start clicking before the end of July.
