Is Joe Mauer over paid? He's a singles hitter. He has a good batting average, that's about all you can say about him that's "good".
And have you noticed he never displays any emotion at all? He seldom seems to put forth a great deal of effort. It would be nice if our highest paid player put forth some effort... wouldn't it?

Interesting...I've never seen this discussed on here. Wonder why that has never been debated on here? Surely somebody has some opinions one way or another on this?

Well, maybe someone will offer their opinion on it here. I've never really thought about it, so I need some time to research this debate. hmmmm

NYUK, NYUK, NYUK!!!

But then, as PC has stated a gazillion times..."EVERY PLAYER IN PROFESSIONAL SPORTS IS OVERPAID"!

I don't give a FRA about what the Twins pay him, but if he's not gonna hit like a guy batting 3rd in the lineup, shouldn't they put someone in that slot that will? Hellsbelles, since he's always looking for a walk, move him to lead-off, and bunt him to 2nd.

Wonder when the last time was when Miggy Cabrera took a 3-0 pitch down the middle with the game on the line in the late innings, and 2 runners in scoring position....or Hamilton...or Kemp...or Puhols...or Texiera...or Big Papi...etc., etc.

No argument here. It's getting really old watching him fail when needed most.

"EVERY PLAYER IN PROFESSIONAL SPORTS IS OVERPAID"!

Well true but big Players like Cubs, Yankees, Angels and the Red Sox they can eat a big contract likes of Carl Crawfords, Alex Rodriguez and Torii Hunters and pay for the down seasons and the years towards the end of the contract but we can't afford to do that. It doesn't prevent them to go sign free agents next year like CJ Wilsons and Pujols and others. Look how they are lowering the pay roll now with dumb excuses.

So, that analogy does not fit in this situation. End of conversation.

Also edited to add :: And that is why this team trades away players like Young and Hardy for a bucket of baseballs when they think that they could get similar productions cheaper from the minors. And what are the consequences from those moves are a different topic to debate about.

If you look hard enough you'll find quite a few posts from me criticizing Mauer...

I have noticed a few, but last nights post was just cut and dry with no sugar coating.

Don't you think the Twins really need to look at making him our everyday first baseman? His SB % has dropped alarmingly.

Can't disagree with that, since I believe Maur is the 3rd best 'catcher' on the team.

Where do you put the current 1st baseman.

Now that you mention it, yeah he might be a little overpaid.

No, stolen bases against this team are mainly on the pitchers. I watched one pitcher - DeVries - not once check Coco Crisp at second base the other night. I was truly amaze Crisp didn't steal 3B.

As for Mauer moving to 1B...nope unless you want even worse offense out of him. THis years numbers...Last time I checked he's hitting 100 points higher when he catches. I say tell him to catch the rest of the season and play ball...

Splits:

At C: .368 batting average, .459 OBP, .518 Slug Pct, .977 OPS

At 1B: .253 batting average, .398 OBP, .337 Slug Pct, .735 OPS

DH: .273 batting average, .343 OBP, .364 Slug Pct, .707 OPS

It doesn't make sense...but that is this season's number. From what I have seen when watching him hit when he plays 1B or DHs is it almost seems like he doesn't come to play and he isn't as intense.

Personally, I would rather have him play at a position that his offensive numbers will be better.

As for pitchers not holding/checking runners...it's time to start levying fines... and lot's of them.

Those stats boggle my mind considering last year he was the complete opposite. He raked when he played 1B and was pedestrian when he caught. Now he's flip flopped.
