I remember when the opening ceremony was about the athletes marching in proudly waving their flags. I know that it has become a way for the host city or country to showcase itself, but I miss the emphasis on the athletes.

Finally a Pink Floyd song with the Eclipse after light the flame ceremony. McCartney did a nose job or something. He looks so younger.

Watched Paul after his shaky start and it was pretty good how he got everyone involved singing Hey Jude, it turned out to be fun to watch.

I didn't care for the opening after the industrial revolution stuff. From the queen dropping in it lost it for the night.

Jack, I think a much more entertaining stunt (if you don't mind offending the Brits) would be to have someone parachute or hang glide in dressed up as Napoleon and plant a French flag into the ground.

LOL, as one person said who I was watching with, as the gold rings showered down, "this must represent Germany bombing them in the war".

How would planting the German flag offend the Brits? The Brits used to be allies and friends with some of the German monarchs. It wasn't until WW1 when they became hostile towards each other. In the Revolution, the Germans sent mercenaries to help fight alongside the Brits and again during the Napoleonic Wars.

On top of that, the English are part German, because of all the Germanic Saxons who immigrated there, along with the Anglos. Heck, even the British Monarchy has some German blood in them.

The French have a rivalry with the British that goes back centuries, hence the reason I suggested Napoleon.

Watching the ladies diving, one of those events that I don't mind watching even though I know the results. I am amazed with how good they are.
