Hit the ball out of the infield with a runner on 3rd and less than two outs? Can I get a soft grounder to the right side one time?!?

Can we win a game where we score 3 or less?

Berry did do a great job in providing a spark for the team and made a huge difference.

That being said, the guy is probably 1-20 and I haven't even seen him hit a ball hard in a long time. Now that dirks is back I'm all for berry being strictly used as a pinch runner/defensive replacement

I'm beginning to come around and think that Berry may not be a star in the making anymore.

But he hustles. And claps fast. And has the all-important weapon of speed.

And ironically, he's still hit better than Delmon Young this month.

Berry did a good job keeping Ich from scoring two days ago. Ball over the head today.

He is what he is.. If your depending on him to win ballgames, it's like the Soxx depending on Jordan Danks to do so. Might happen a couple times....usually not.

Giveth & taketh away.

Which month is that? Before going 0-5 today, Berry had a .753 OPS in August. Young has a .860 OPS.

Yeah, I saw that play. Then I heard the radio guy gush about how he saved a run by not bobbling that ball. So, he was a hero by making the play that every fielder is expected to make.

He has a role on the team, as a pinch runner bunter, defensive replacement for Young/Boesch is no one else is available. Just he shouldn't be starting anymore.

Dirks, Jackson and Boesch in the outfield with Baker against LH's. Berry on the bench as PR and D replacement........But JL will continue his revolving door

I don't think he will. We're already seeing Berry getting a lot fewer starts. I'm not sure he should be a defensive replacement as often as he is, though.

I think with Dirks back ..Berry needs to be available on the bench if needed as a pinch runner. Would have rather seen Berry today pinch running in bottom of the ninth than Laird, with Laird available in pinch hitting role.

Sometimes the manager is the dog, ..sometimes the fire hydrant. Maybe today he was both.

So you're on the side that Berry shouldn't be starting any more?

I was basing it on the last 30 days. Berry is .642, Young.640.

Yes.

I'm tired of the Quintin Inge experiment.

Or the Quentin LoganAndersonShelton experiment.

And I'll even go to this point: The love for Berry from 90% of the Tigers is WORSE than Inge ever had it from his famous Downriver Cougars. One of the games Berry blew chunks on, both offensively and defensively, causing us a run. Then he gets a walkoff "hit" where it snuck past the infield and he becomes the HERO?

And anytime he makes an error or s*cks at the plate fans will shrug it off especially when he "redeems" himself.

The SADDEST PART is? The fans who back Berry are the same fans who ripped Inge and the Ingeiots over the years.

I'm going to call those fans Dingle-berries

Name one ball player who has never popped out in the 9th with runners in scoring position in his career, Cobb, Ruth, Williams yeah and even Cabrera, they all did it. 9th inning always blows things out of proportion, if it was the second inning it would hardly be noticed. No one was ragging on Berry when he got five hits in a game or hit a walk off winning hit. Happens to everyone.

It seems like every couple of years we get a guy like Berry who is well liked because he supposedly plays "fundamentally sound baseball," which really means, "he bunts occasionally, can run relatively well, and is generally scrappy." Two years ago it was Will Rhymes, who many liked until we finally realized he was terrible, and before that it was Josh Anderson and Clete Thomas.

I'm okay with Berry being on the 25-man roster, as we don't have a ton of fantastic bench options, but he really shouldn't be starting with Dirks back.
