Catching up here, for 7/31:

7/31
Young
Boesch/Raburn
Avila
Peralta
Infante

2/11(.167), 3 BB, 1K, 1 Runs scored, 0 RBI

.357 OBP, 167 SLG, .524 OPS

And then a bit better:

8/01
Boesch
Young
Avila
Peralta
Santiago

6/19 (.316), 0 BB, 4K, 3 Runs scored, 2 RBI, 1 HR
.316 OBP, .474 SLG, .790 OPS

First game over .700 OPS as a group in quite some time. Only two RBI, but one was a big one by, Gasp, Delmon Young.

Need to see this kind of production (maybe some more RBI and walks) on a consistent basis. Again, the top 4 knocked in 5 of the 7 runs and scored 4 of the 7 runs.

Hopefully this is a continuing trend and this thread can die:

8/03
Boesch
Dirks
Avila
Santiago
Infante

7/20 (.350), 3 BB, 4K, 3 Runs scored, 4 RBI, 1 2B, 1 3B, 1 Sac Fly
.417 OBP, ,500 SLG, .917 OPS

Granted, the top 4 were this tonight:

9/17 (.529), 3 BB, 3K, 7 runs scored, 6 RBI, 2 2B, 1 HR
.600 OBP, .706 SLG, 1.306 OPS.

Now, if we could see a more balanced top to bottom performance, from 1-9 on a consistent basis, this team will obviously go back to winning games.

To not set up the jinx, here are the numbers from Saturday's game, a great game for the bottom 5, as they knocked in ALL six runs, has to be a first for this season:

8/4
Boesch
Young
Avila
Peralta
Infante

6/16 (.375), 2 BB, 2K, 4 Runs scored, 6 RBI, 2 2B, 2 3B, 2 Sac Fly
.400 OBP, ,750 SLG, 1.150 OPS

An excellent night, and a game that was won by the bottom 5, with key hits and atbats from pretty much all 5 of them.

If 5-9 can come anywhere close to these stats we should have a good October.

Well, the Tigers won today, but not because of the bottom 5, here are the ugly stats from today, led by least favorite pal, Delmon Young:

8/05
Young/Berry
Peralta
Boesch
Laird/Avila
Worth/Dirks

2/20 (.100), 4 BB, 5K, 1 HBP, 3 Runs scored, 1 RBI, 1 2B, 2 GIDP for an extra two outs.
.200 OBP, ,150 SLG, .350 OPS

The top 4 were this tonight:

11/21 (.524), 3 BB, 2K, 7 runs scored, 9 RBI, 2 2B, 2 3B, 2 HR, 1 Sac Fly
.560 OBP, 1.095 SLG, 1.655 OPS

That was an amazing game from the top of the lineup. Again, the bottom 5 HAVE to produce, this result while amazing will happen about once in a decade.

Again, the bottom 5 has to produce consistently for this team to have a chance to win the division.

Topsy - Turvy from the bottom 5, today, a lot of contributions:

8/06
Boesch/Berry
Young
Avila
Peralta
Infante

8/18 (.444), 1 BB, 5K, 1 CS, 5 Runs scored, 3 RBI, 2 GIDP
.473 OBP, .444 SLG, .917 OPS

Very nice to see contributions from the bottom 5.

8/07
Boesch/Berry
Young
Peralta
Avila
Dirks

9/19 (.474), 1 BB, 1K, 2 2B, 4 Runs scored, 3 RBI
.500 OBP, .526 SLG, 1.026 OPS

Another excellent day from the bottom 5, led by Dirks

Avila quietly working his average and OBP up to respectable numbers as well lately.

I would stop doing this thread, but last time it stopped, so did the hitting from the bottom 5, so ....

8/09
Young
Baker/Dirks
Boesch
Laird/Avila
Santiago

9/23 (.391), 0 BB, 5K, 2 2B, 4 Runs scored, 6 RBI
.391 OBP, .478 SLG, .869 OPS

You have to keep it up now. Your team and the 5-9 crew need you.

Continued Support from the bottom 5:

8/09
Boesch/Jackson
Peralta
Avila
Infante
Santiago
7/19 (.368), 1 SAC, 0 BB, 3K, 2 2B, 1 HR (Avila had one of each and he is hot right now), 2 Runs scored, 2 RBI
.350 OBP, .632 SLG, .986 OPS

Not sure how the tigers as a whole only scored 3 runs today, had 3 doubles, 1 HR, and a total of 13 hits, but could not get that big one today.

I know, i was supporting him elsewhere in other threads, and since that, he is 0-fer, with 2 major fails in key situations (Indians 9th inning and Yankees 9th inning)

Not a ton of support from the bottom 5 last night, but enough:

8/10
Boesch/Berry
Young
Avila
Peralta
Infante
3/17 (.176), 4 BB, 0K, 2 2B, (Avila on base all 4 times, he is smoking hot right now), 1 Run scored, 1 RBI
.333 OBP, .294 SLG, .627 OPS

Again, the Top 4 pretty much delivered it all, but Avila was on base all 4 times, Young got an RBI double.

Not a good night for the entire lineup, but the bottom did zero, including leaving the bases loaded in the 9th:

8/11
Young
Baker/Boesch
Peralta
Dirks
Laird

3/18 (.167), 0 BB, 7K, one GIDP (they missed Avila), 0 Run scored, 0 RBI
.167 OBP, ..167 SLG, .333 OPS

Brutal, Brutal, Brutal.

And Delmon Young continues his string of getting hits but not scoring guys. He now has 3 RBI in the past 22 games.

He flails at sliders in the dirt, he hits ground ball double plays (again today), and he hits a lot of fly outs. He gets most of his hits with nobody on base, he has 3 RBI in 22 or 23 games now, and his OBP is under .300, but Boesch is a mess, Berry isn't playing, etc.

At this point, i think we need to see this for a lineup:

Jackson
Dirks
Cabrera
Fielder
Avila
Peralta
Boesch
Infante
Young (Or Berry)

Another day, another below average performance from the bottom 5, or at least the 5/6 spots. The Brennan/Delmon combo is absolutely killing them right now, they both need to be dropped down:

8/12:
Boesh/Baker
Young
Avila
Peralta
Infante

3/18 (.167), 2 BB, 5K, one GIDP, 1 2B (Avila and Infante both on twice), 3 Run scored, 1 RBI
.200 OBP, .222 SLG, .422 OPS

3 straight awful perfomances. The bottom 5 has now pretty much dissapeared on the road, especially the dynamic duo at 5/6.

Yeah, eliminate Infante and those numbers are worse
