Two years out is an incredibly difficult amount of time to try to foresee. Just look at how different the 2010 Tigers on opening day were from 2012.

We'd be cynical if someone said Avila would go from a terrible rookie backup catcher to an All-Star in 2011. Or that we'd have the Indians Jhonny Peralta at SS and the Twins Delmon Young at DH. They'd think you were mad if you mentioned Prince Fielder (why not just list Hamilton, Greinke, Cano and Johan Santana while we're at it?). And who the heck is Doug Fister?
While the turnaround won't be this severe (only 3 players from that lineup are on the current team, one of whom left and came back) we still have a bunch of contracts that are ending after 2012.
It's all but guaranteed Young won't be back, and Raburn will need to have a major 2nd half to warrant a new deal. Peralta and Valverde have expensive club options; in my opinion they're both replaceable but DD might see 2013 as the year to 'go for it'. Boesch will need a major turnaround to keep his RF spot. It's widely speculated one or both of Scherzer or Porcello will be traded, and Santiago, while he might get an extension into 2014 and beyond, won't be given the starting role at age 34.
But you can guarantee that DD will do all he can in 2013-14 with the core nucleus of Verlander, Fister, Cabrera, Fielder, Jackson, Avila and Martinez. From there, who knows?
