    • Tyler Colvin - First Baseman of the Future?

Tyler Colvin is having some kind of 2012, and his extra base hit per at-bat is even lower than Cargo's! Should we work him hard this season and off-season at 1B? Is he the future after Helton?

He should be the center fielder of our future......still think Dex has underachieved for long enough with some hot streaks.

Can't agree at all here. We're seeing a lot of improvement from Fowler this season.

Thread: "Tyler Colvin - First Baseman of the Future?"

Re: No. Pancheco or even Matt McBride should be our 1Bman of the future. Pancheco isn't a 3Bman and has only gotten looks to keep his bat in the lineup. McBride could be in a similar situation, looking for another position if catcher isn't availible.
Just a thought, but having Pancheco and McBride as #1 and #2 1Bman as well as the #2 and #3 catchers gives a lot of flexibility.

Tyler Colvin 'can' play 1B, and significantly better than Cuddyer who mans the position as well as Iannetta did at 3B or Stewart at 2B, but Colvin should be our OF'er of the now and future. I'd take him over Cuddyer as the everyday starter and trade Cuddyer for prospects.

"In the future" - I'd guess Cargo has one or two more years with the team as his contract escalates. We have a couple very good OF'ers in the farm (Blackmon, Wheeler, etc) and McBride has also played RF. I'd pencil in Fowler and Colvin for 5yrs with a need for a 4th OF'er next season and a replacement for Cargo in 2yrs.

If I were GM I'd see if some good starting pitching could be traded for Fowler. And if that can't happen Colvin should be worked to cover some 1B in case Helton gets even worse next year.

That's pretty much what i'd like to see them do, trade Fowler for whatever you can get in return in the form of pitching. Stick with Colvin and Rosario, maybe some buyers out there will have a need for a veteran catcher in Hernandez ( assuming he gets healthy).

Keep in mind... Matt McBride is already 26, and is currently hitting in super hitter friendly AAA. Given his age, and the league... I believe his numbers should be much more developed.

I absolutely love Pacheco, but so far his bat hasn't profiled with power in the majors. He makes great contact, which I believe should allow him to bat second. I think the only spot he should play is 3B, but we all know Arenado is coming up soon and could take it away from him.

I don't think you would get good starting pitching for just Fowler. However, if you make a package out of Cuddyer, Scutaro, or Fowler together... you might get something in return.

I like Dex. I love watching him run around center field. I'd hate to see him go. I've said before Colvin should be the heir to first base. I'd like to see him playing first every time Todd is sitting. This is probably wishful thinking but maybe by next year White and Pomeranz will be ready and we won't need so much help with pitching.

1st baseman of the future? How about right now? Helton looks like he is done.

I agree. I love Todd but he should retire and move on. They owe him enough money in the future he will always live good. O'Dowd in 13 years has delivered a team that has no 1B, 2B, 3B, RF, C, CF, and we all know the great job he has done on pitching. Bottom line: the team today would not beat the team he inherited. Go back and compare lineups.

Unless Todd seriously turns in around in the 2nd half... (this pains me to say) I think he should be done.

Todd is really struggling this year. Colvin and Pacheco should be playing more first base. It's a youth movement at all the other positions.

Colvin hit another HR tonight, on a 2-2 count. The kid has more HRs per AB than Cargo right now.
