Given two consecutive poor starts and inconsistent pitching over the past few years what does the future hold for him as a Red? Marty said just when you think he's turned the corner his last two outings leaves you wondering. We've been patiently waiting for the real Homer to show up and he just hasn't come through. Anyone have any possible answers or suggestions?

uh, REDSCAPSLOCK already started this thread. It was called "still loving that Bailey Boy?". Atleast I think it was REDSCAPSLOCK, could have been MRNSYNC(fan)

Unfortunately you are right about Bailey. There's no one in our minors to replace him anytime soon. I'm still not sold on our starting pitching with the exception of Cueto and a resurgent Lattos. Do you know anything about Corsino and Cingrani? How are they coming along?

I have some concerns with the pitching too, besides Cueto and Latos of course. Cingrani is probably a good year away is my guess, and Corcino I think you could see next year at the earliest. There has been talks that Corcino might end up being a reliever thou, although thats not definite.

All pitchers have stretches where they go thru struggles, so hopefully thats all it is and Homer will find his groove again soon. I know its easy to get worried about Homer cause we have seen this so many times, he teases us with a few games then stinks it up for long stretches, hopefully thats not the case and he gets back on track his next outing.

Bailey might be running out of gas so to speak in 2011 he only pitched 132 innings as for 2012 he's at 131 and counting. He might just be fatigued..

I've heard a lot of people on this board say the biggest problem with Bailey is between his ears. That sometimes he refuses to listen to Brian Price and Dusty. He does tease us from time to time with brilliant performances and other times he disappoints.

Today the offense got behind a couple of times then battled back to tie it at two a piece then the back breaker was a two run double by Marte on a 1-2 count with two outs to put the Pirates ahead 4-2. Had he gotten out of that inning without that mistake pitch who knows what may have happened. But then again after we tied it at two we couldn't get anything going offensively. Would have been nice to have Phillips in the line up today. And Bruce needs to he more consistent IMO

That use to be part of his problem and it still very well could be part of it. Homer has matured quite a bit in the last couple years thou. It seems he loses focus still at times and he struggles with getting the ball up in the zone still way to much. I hope he gets back on track in his next start, we will need him to be good down the stretch and in the postseason. You know Bronson and Leake will have there stinkers so we really need Homer not to do the same. If he stinks it up again in his next start I will definitely start getting worried about him being able to put it back together.

Homer has allowed the stigma of GABP to remain in his head. To be totally honest, he is horrible at home and all star worthy on the road.

Home Record 3-5 Home ERA 5.17 OPP BA at home .309

Road Record 6-2 Road ERA 2.63 OPP BA on road .227

Also has given 14 HR's at GABP, opposed to 4 on the road.

Whatever happens this season one thing is for sure. This team is built for the long term and should be good for years to come

Yeah he has been much better on the road. I think it definitely affects him mentally. If your a good pitcher thou you can pitch anywhere. GABP dont seem to affect Cueto or Latos. Homer biggest problem is location. For some reason he gets way to many pitches up in the zone, waist high. If your going to miss up it needs to be higher up in the zone than what he does. I can understand a soft tosser like Bronson missing with his floaters at times because some games guy like him just dont get the break they need on the breaking pitches. Power pitcher like Homer should not have the same issue that Bronson has when he is off. Some days you just dont have it but you have to grind it out, Cueto can do it and Latos can when they dont have all their pitchers working but Homer cant seem to. Thats the difference between being a top of the rotation guy and a bottom of the rotation guy. We have 3 bottom of the rotation pitchers and 2 top of the rotation pichers, lol. Homer needs to get it right and be a solid #3 instead of looking like a #5 on a good team or it will be a battle come postseason to win it all. We already have to #5 in Bronson and Leake.
