    • Henry Rodriguez for Cairo

I know Cairo brings some veteran leadership and clubhouse savvy, but he just cannot hit very well at this point. Do we try to DFA Miguel and bring up the hot hitting Rodriguez or wait until September? Rodriguez is hitting .351 and is only 22 years old. Not a bad player to have on the MLB roster with the production and potential factors.

For a pennant race? I don't think that's a good move.

Hard to see Cairo going anywhere, He's been there before and thats a very underappreciated thing come October.

Same here. Cairo is like Rolen their careers are coming to a end and they are no where near what they once were, but there is osmething to be said for veteran leadership. Plus just like Rolen tonight they have the ability to do something special in some clutch situations unlike a unproven rookie with post season on the line. I know Cairo has not looked good and has not did much, but he has not had many at bats either to get his timing down either. Pitchers going deep in games like ours have been doing keep bench players like Cairo form getting at bats.

What kind of prospect is he really? He seems kind of under the radar but is very young and is tearing it up. What is the ceiling on Rodriguez?

I've seen Henry play 3 years in the Venezuelan Winter League. He's a ball player. He carried his team here to the playoff after a 5 years drought. Switch hitter, excelent contact, decent pop and glove (2b-3b). I love Cairo. But I'd rather see Henry up at this stage of Miggys career.

you wanna bring up a 22 year old to sit on the bench and get 3 ABs per week instead of playing every day and gaining valuable experience in the minors?

my vote would be NO!

you DO NOT use 22-23 year olds as bench jockeys

he's NOT gonna see any action at 2nd, and people are already screaming about Frazier not starting often enough at 3rd.

NAAAH, it's too soon. Besides they would have to just release Cairo, unless he'd take a rehab assignment. Why would he? This could be his last year in MLB. I know he's owed less than a million this year, but there's one thing indisputable about this franchise. Ready?.... they'd rather give up a first born than eat a contract. Plus that gets the Arb clock ticking on his rookie replacement. Nope, like Hamilton, he'll have to wait. "Remember, remember, the first of September."

I like Rodriguez a lot but he's been in AAA for only like a week.

I want to see him stay at Louisville. As others have said, why bring him up to sit on the bench? I'm afraid the same thing is going to happen to Frazier since Rolen got a couple of hits.

No player looks good riding the pines for extended periods but you are quite right about the pitchers going deep in to games reducing their playing time. Nice pickup. I didn't think about it until you mentioned it.

Rookies tend to fold under pennant drives and you don't WANT to have to depend on a rookie as they are too inconsistent anyway. Besides, where you put him?

Frazier is beyond the age where he can be considered a prospect. You can argue that he has earned the starting third base job and maybe he has, but at his age he needs to be in the bigs even if he sits.

If he can prove he can come off the bench cold and play well, he will have a spot on the 25 man roster secured for next year even if we acquire another starting third baseman.

HRod, though, needs to play every day.

While I am in favor o doing something with Cairo, I don't see Rodriguez as the answer.

I'd rather trade for Mark Kotsay, who would give us veteran presence on the bench and is a LH bat. Plus he can play first.

If Rolen is truly back, then Frazier slides into the role Cairo has held. One of them will need to move on.

Henry Rodriguez has a very productive bat. However thats only in the minor leagues. Also, he has a product bat but his glove is his downfall. The kids defense is horrible. The Reds will call him up in Sept to get him a cup of coffee but he will no take Cairo's spot because Cairo's been around the corner and knows ML pitching....and plays steady defense. Can play 1st 2nd and 3rd bases and plays defense well.

Are you thinking of Hamilton? Rodriguez is okay at 2b and 3b. He's better than Frazier defensively.
