    • Hamilton next 2B in Cincinnati?

Do you think Phillips will sign a STD just long enough to let Hamilton make his way to the bigs,
------------
You know?

When I think about this, Hamilton may have Phillips looking in the "rear view" mirror these days.

It might also explain Phillips insistence on a "long term" deal.

Think Hamilton can bat leadoff?

Phillips is quickly becoming VERY expensive to this team. Saving the money from his contract could go a LONG WAYS into resigning Votto to the type of deal he'll be requiring.

We all know Votto is a MUCH better talent overall anyway.

Billy Hamilton

On the positive side:
-103 stolen bases in 135 games at class A Dayton.
-9 triples in 550 ABs

On the negative side:
-39 errors in 574 chances and .932 fielding percentage at SS for class A Dayton
-133 K's in 550 ABs

It does appear that he makes far fewer errors at 2B, but 39 errors is a boat load. Compare to Brandon Phillips, who made only 6 errors in 721 chances and a .992 fielding percentage, along with 3 gold gloves.

Hamilton looks like he has a bright future, but I'm in no rush to get rid of BP.

Any time a player steals 48 bases in a rookie-level, short-season league, it's time to sit up and take notice
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Stubbs stole 40 in the majors and you all want to run him off. Why don't you check out Hamilton's error totals. He is not nearly big league ready.

Geez, people. I told you at least two years ago that Hamilton was a future left fielder unless he improved his hands. That was when the resident experts were proclaiming him the heir apparent to AGon at shortstop. I was typically ridiculed, as all prophets are in their time, but isn't the writing on the wall today?

Hamilton is a future outfielder unless he can improve his hands. He can use his speed to turn batted balls into routine flyouts and his weak arm won't be an issue in Left Field. Further, his frail body won't hold up to the rigors of the infield unless he bulks up significantly. He's far too thin still.

He had like mid-20's in errors at the half way point of last year, so he definitely got better over the sewson. His problem is that he has a side arm release and the ball gets away from him a lot. He has range for days and can get to anything, just needs to know when to hold onto it.

Its not hos hands ots his throwing motion. I guarantee you about 3/4ths of those errors are of the throwing variety. And I wouldn't mind seeing him in center.

I think you are right. Phillips is worth two draft picks if he walks. Lets see what we can get in a trade.

I suggest making a deal with the Marlins. They want to make a huge splash this year, and a trade with Phillips gives them that How about Logan Morrison, Chris Volstad and a pitching prospect in return?

Decisions on moving Hamilton should wait until he's played AA for a year.

To get those picks we'd have to make an offer north of 12 M. I'm not sure that would be wise.

Here is a thought... keep Phillips at 2B and put Hamilton in CF. He has the speed to cover the ground, takes care of the leadoff situation, and his speed on base allows for pitchers to have to keep their mind on him at first.

Most of Hamilton's errors are balls that the 3rd baseman doesn't get to and he throws across his body and/or rushes the throw, he is definitely a 2B and should not be moved to the outfield.

We should handle the Phillips/Hamilton issue the same way we will Votto/Soto, by waiting till the latter is ready then trade the former for top dollar(most likely #1-2 starter).

Nonsense?

I think you're being a little hard on me. Perhaps you should look at the situation a little more deeply, maybe you'll see my point.

Happy Thanksgiving. Hope you had a good one.
