How much longer is he with the team?

My opinion is that once Joyce, Longo, and Scott are back he is gone. Hopefully, this is by the all-star break. There is not room left once those 3 return. Because I can only see Will Rhymes and Conrad leaving. The next person that would be gone is S-Rod, or maybe Scott himself (would not be the first time a high priced free agent was let go example Burrell). Personally, Matsui does not add anything that we don't already have.

its easy to agree I expected more from him...He is making contact but .149 isn't much to show for his efforts..

mid season additions..

.Matsui, B Allen. R Thompson, Sutton, Conrad- who here really thought any of these guys were going to make an difference???????

When the latter 4 were placed on the team I said...WHO??????
And when Matsui came on I felt that we already had a few lefties capable of an occasional hr that can bat 200

I didn't think he would make much of a difference, he did win us a game. He has actually exceeded what I expected of him.

Conrad, after today, will stay....at least for awhile. I honestly expect that when Scott comes back next week that Matsui will be released.....He did win us a game and had a couple of other hits. He was making good contact with no results. It was a nice try that just didn't work out as hoped.

Unfortunately, Matsui is going to say with the Rays until Fuld returns in August... I also would rather see Thompson, Vogt, Anderson or Allen. Remember Justin Ruggiano? He would have been an ideal replacement but Friedman and Maddon preferred Rodriguez and Brignac on the roster......

When Luke Scott returns then one of the 13 pitchers should go back to Durham, most likely Alexander Torres. Scott by the way STILL leads the team in RBIs and hasn't had but a few ABs in June when the back went. No Comparison whatsoever with Burrell, though this board appears to be focused on BA and BA only. Scott was doing his job well driving in runs in April and May.

I would expect that when Joyce comes back then Rhymes goes back down and Conrad stays, but that should depend of course on performance. Too low an offensive ceiling with Rhymes and unfortunately part of the defensive problem. I don't expect Conrad to change things much on defense but he can hit for power and drive in some runs.

I see Hideki Matsui staying even though he really hasn't got it going yet. I still think he gets good ABs but the balls just aren't falling in there. Two of our best left-handed hitters with back problems doesn't sound good (Joyce and Scott). Back problems aren't like stubbing your toe or something, they usually don't just heal up and poof go away. Therefore I see Matsui staying.

If Longoria or Fuld eventually return then there might be a few difficult roster choices but that will be down the road.

I just don't see where Matsui will fit once Joyce and Scott are back. We will have Zobrist in the outfield for days off and Scott at DH most days (and Longo would more than likely hit DH when he first returns). Matsui can't pinch run. And with our current roster it makes no sense for him to pinch hit because why would he pinch hit for any lefties in a lefty to lefty matchup. And I don't see any right handed hitters being subbed for. Maybe Rhymes, but that assumes Rhymes is not sent down.

He would just be a wasted spot on the bench.

Exactly Casey, Joe would actually prefer to have 4-5 poor to mediocre, versatile AA players than a couple of superstars ala Matt Joyce!

I don't think you can assess Hideki's worth with such a small sample size of ABs.... He has gotten a few key hits and a lot of his outs were solid contact. For any given time window, even the best of hitters have succked.
