I'd like to get Dempster, too. But his salary is too huge.
It occurs to me that adding Alphonso Soriano to the package might entice the Cubs to trade Dempster to us for not much player-wise. But thats a crazy idea, although we do need an outfielder and a starting pitcher.
Sure, Dempster/Soriano would be incredibly expensive, but if the Cubs paid the O's cash that amounted to two-thirds of what those 2 are owed for the rest of their contracts, maybe both sides would agree. And then I'd tell Soriano that he needs to use a smaller, less heavy bat.
Not sure what the Cubs would want for Dempster by himself, though.
And i'd only do the Dempster/Soriano deal if the Cubs did add enough cash to cover 2/3rds of their remaining contract monies. That is a lot of cash, so, I don't see it happening. But I tried.
