Dempster from the Cubs would fit in nicely, and I know that he would remove his NTC. However, the price may be another matter. Hopefully Britton can help put a charge into this rotation.

"King Felix"

Yeah, right. I guess we could give the Mariners back Adam Jones and Chris Tillman. We would probably have to add Chen or Hammel, and also add a couple top prospects, maybe Schoop, Delmonico, and/or Avery. Bundy and Jones would likely be enough but I doubt the Orioles would do that. Maybe Bundy and Wieters? One thing is for sure, the Mariners will not allow themselves to be raped by the Oriole front office again after being burned in the Bedard trade.

No team will just give us their Ace for nothing. The cost could be more than our organization can bare. We need to set our sights on a decent #2 or #3 IMO.

I come in peace. (etc...)

There is no way I would include Bundy in a deal that includes multiple guys for King Felix, he's almost as untouchable as it gets. If we're talking about main pieces, Machadao is probably a better option, the Mariners would need a bat much more anyway. Just my two cents.

This is unlikely going down though, the Mariners said they're not trading Felix anytime soon. You're right the O's are better off going for a higher MOR starter. Maybe Garza or somethin...

I agree. I was mostly throwing those names around as an example of the type of names that the Mariners would demand if they did not hang up the phone immediately. Bundy will likely stay in the organization for a long time though. Personally, I try not to put a "completely untouchable" tag on anyone because I remember Brien Taylor. If a deal comes down that is just too good to pass up, I will trade anyone.

I'd like to get Dempster, too. But his salary is too huge.

It occurs to me that adding Alphonso Soriano to the package might entice the Cubs to trade Dempster to us for not much player-wise. But thats a crazy idea, although we do need an outfielder and a starting pitcher.

Sure, Dempster/Soriano would be incredibly expensive, but if the Cubs paid the O's cash that amounted to two-thirds of what those 2 are owed for the rest of their contracts, maybe both sides would agree. And then I'd tell Soriano that he needs to use a smaller, less heavy bat.

Not sure what the Cubs would want for Dempster by himself, though.

And i'd only do the Dempster/Soriano deal if the Cubs did add enough cash to cover 2/3rds of their remaining contract monies. That is a lot of cash, so, I don't see it happening. But I tried.

Agreed - while it would be nice to have King Felix, the price would be so high we couldn't couldn't do it without ruining the future of the O's. Oh well.

Would love to get Garza, but don't see it happening without mortgaging the O's future. I don;t think the O's should trade any top prospects yet, but should target veteran pitching that can be had for not too much for the next couple of years.

I so wish that Reynolds was doing better so as to increase his trade value so he could be part of a trade package for a good vet starting pitcher. Oh well.

are you forgetting adam`s contract? I believe tucked in that deal was a no trade clause meaning no trade.

The Orioles need better starting pitching. The Cubs are shopping Garza. Maybe Tilman/Betemet/Matusz/Hoes

Matusz is the one starter that has been pitching well for us lately. How about Tilman/Betemet/Arrieta/Hoes/Gregg/Delmonico for Garza/Castro? lol

"oh come on am not sure I want soriano."

Me neither haha, but he is an outfielder - just not so good anymore. Maybe needs a change of scenery? I watch Cubs games sometimes(I'm in Indiana now) and think his bat is way too big for him.

Soriano wouldn't seriously be a trade target of mine, but I do want Dempster somehow. Or Garza I suppose. Or both! Or do I get to settle for a free agent signing of Ross Ohlendorf as long-man bullpen depth?

R.A. Dickey would be cool as a 5th starter - definitely would be a different look for opposing batters every 5th day.
