I don't see the point in going beyond 2 years, $4 million here. He's 33 now and while he does hit for power, there's not much else to his game. He's overpriced and I think it's a mistake to put the resources into him.

I know he doesnt hit righties as well, but if they do sign him he should just play. They platoon too much.

In all honesty I see Mike Baxter as our highest quality outfielder right now.

While I somewhat agree with what your saying, I think signing Hairston is a relatively benign move, where they're only quibbling over a couple of million or so. I'd be okay with it, viewing his signing as a way of diverting the team away from costlier mistakes.

2.5 million a season for two years would be my final offer. Anything beyond that and it's too much. You're paying for his age 33 and 34 seasons and it's better just to find a young Baxter or Cowgill type than spend that money on Hairston.
