FINALLY, someone sees it. <Hell, they made the slide themselves by releasing specific information. As in, the "scouts" that went throughout the league to look for players, only to say that every one of them was "too pricey". The Wilpons are using propaganda tactics to get the results they need. They were probably not just convinced they weren't going to be in the hunt, they were probably BANKING on it. They literally cannot afford to field a competent, winning team, and them doing well in their condition would have put enough pressure on them to actually spend, and they couldn't have that.
I think Howard Johnson said it best on Twitter a few months ago: the "illusion of improvement".
