Should the Mets hold off on trying to trade Dickey and just sign a couple of guys like Ludwick and Ross?

If they are willing to as reports say sign a couple of this guys to make the as promised significant upgrades to the OF and Catcher should we still trade Dickey or Neise?

I say NO! I only considered a trade if it was the only way to improve some of the holes we had.

Ludwick is resigning with the Reds for $7 million per and Rubin has a team insider quoted saying that is more than they want to spend.

If thae Mets want to bring in a FA, they'll need to overpay.

Ludwick's a prime example. Why would he leave Cincinnati, where he had good success last year to head to NY and play in Citi Field? Why would he choose a team that's likely headed to the playoffs for a team that's likely headed for a repeat 4th place finish? The only reason any player would do this is the $.

We were not close to making the playoffs last season. Adding one or two middle of the road hitters will NOT help us get there.

They are being way too selective which usually means that he will either do nothing or make some last minute panic moves like last year. They need a catcher, but no good FAs are available which means asking price in any trade will be high. They want older cheaper, but respectable outfielder to hold the fort for a year or two, but don;t seem to want to go above what it would take to bring back Hairston. They are considering moving Dickey, but the asking price appeards to be too high for most teams. This is how you end up with nonsense like having Francisco as a closer and Andres Torres in center field.

The problem is they are too expensive right now to Sandy Alderson's and ownerships liking. Even Scott Hairston maybe too pricey for the Mets taking.

Hairston is probably the best one left unless Reed Johnson, Cody Ross, Austin Kearns, Matt Diaz or Jeff Baker piques your interest.

Yes and no, 2 new players from the start of last year most likely would not, HOWEVER there have already been a number of changes made during the season,

The pen has been very much reworked already

Gone Acosta and his mid 6 ERA over 97 innings, E Ramirex and his mid 5s ERA over 23 innings, Hafner and his low 5s ERA over 93 innings (might get a second look but wont get so many innings if he stinks) Batista and his near 5 ERA over 46 innings,

And if you actually watched the Mets games you would know when the hitting was going well for the first half of the year the pen would continue to screw the offense and rotation out of wins,

Mets offense was a second tier offense scoring 650, Top teirs scored over 700 and there were only about 5 or 6 who did so, The lowest of these upper tier offfenses wer the braves who scored 700 runs,

Do the math here that is 50 more then us, But wait a minute we got ZERO from Bay, Torres and Thole and two of those guys if not all three will be replaced,

Actually Cody ross and Austin kerns along with Hairston are upgrades so yes Id take them and think they improve our offense but you have forgotten a bunch of guys.

Dont get why AJ is not getting more interest, .278 27 HRS seems like the perfect guy for this team.

How is that an unfounded statement when and if your paying attention to mlbtraderumors, espn live blogs that so far that the prices of these free agents so far too expensive for the Mets Price Range. Look at Ryan Ludwick the price range that he signed for with the Reds was out of the Mets range which is a fact.

JUAN RIVERA FOR $1M OR SO WOULD BE A DECENT RH BAT TO REPLACE HAIRSTON ON BENCH IMO.
