Will this signing now stop all the criticism about Reyes getting 106M because Wright is even more overpaid?

Wright's contract is 8 years Reyes' contract is 6 years, Reyes is getting more per year despite Wright being the better player.

Who is the better player is debatable. They both have different skill sets.

Wright has more power, Reyes is way faster.
Wright is a middle of the order hitter and Reyes is top of the order.
Wright plays 3B, Reyes plays an even more premium position.
Wright is a game changer when he is hot, Reyes changes the game every time he get on base.

If I am given a choice of the two to build a team? I pick Reyes by a narrow margin.

Neither one was worth that. Mets made right move by letting Reyes walk. Actually they should have traded him for SOMETHING during the 2011 season. People forget. BOTH those guys were huge components of those epic collapses (2007 and 2008). They are nice players but NOT of winning pedigree and not worth their new contracts. Many were crying about losing Reyes. Well, we still finished 4th without him.

Reyes sat on the top step and sulked thorugh collapse #1......Williies yankee rules were too tuff on him....he needs music in the clubhouse in order care about winning

2 good to great players don't make a team. When the Mets won the division in 2006 they had Reyes, Wright, Delgado, Beltran, Valentin, Alou, etc.

When the Mets won in 1986 they had Carter, Straw, Hernandez, Backman, 3B and a bunch of others.

The Mets now have Wright and a bunch of unproven support cast.

Which Ike Davis will we get in 2013? Tejada, Murphy? where is the OF, C?

Jose's a very good player, but that was a tough contract to match. I think w/o the injuries, he'd still be a Met.

Worth 6.7 Wins above replacement, good for 4th best in the entire league last year.

First off, you are wrong. David Wright would be a solid 3-hitter for A LOT of teams.

And a run producer in the middle of the lineup is More Valuable than a leadoff hitter.

Id pick Reyes to for the next couple years. Wright stays healthy much more often and Reyes with all his leg problems is much more likely to decline and fast.
