I can't STAND PED users/cheaters and don't like them on my team....however I think I may be warming up to this idea. If the 1 year 3-4m contract estimation is accurate, that may be a solid move for the Mets. So, I'll support a Melky signing if it is for around that rumored amount.

Yeah I think signing him and Scott Hairston would be a smart move.

Sign him, hope he has a good first half, then trade him for some prospects at the deadline.

You have to understand that now that Bay is gone, the Mets need a PED left fielder replacement. So Melky is all but signed and delivered.

I think a Hairston/Duda platoon in LF would be a VERY solid option. Scott maid 1.1m this year, so he will probably want to get paid a bit more and rightfully so. Offer him a 2/6m deal. That is almost a 200% raise. I think it is very possible to get a line of .320 35 110 out of LF if it is a strict platoon. Hairston MIGHT want a bigger payday though...

I understand....but I'm strictly looking at this solely from a baseball POV and since we have ZERO MLB OFers, he would be an improvement by default.

Keep in mind he did not test positive for HGH he had an elivated level of testosterone.

You might want to look at his career stats before saying that, Any year he has gotten 300 to 400 Plus ABs he has put up those types of numbers.

When he has gotten over 300 ABS he has put up similar numbers .255ish with 17 HRS and 21 doubles.

There is a major difference between getting 300 to 400 ABS in the sgtarting lineup and getting 100 as a pinch hitter

2004 3.36 ABS per start
2008 2.92 ABS per start
2009 4.14 ABS per star
2012 2.82 ABs per sart

This is with regular play 1472 ABS over 533 games over 4 years

the rest of his career, 2.3 ABS per game over 314 games over 5 years

When he gets regular playing time instead of spot starts and coming off the bench his numbers are very similar.

Mets need to stop addressing area of weakness with hope. I am sure SA is thinking this could be a border line AS caliber OF on the cheap..A guy who has the personality and ability to play in NY. Well at least on the other NY team where he was on a lineup that is among the deepest you'll ever see. These guys use PEDS for a reason. Its because without them they are not very good. You don't know if Melky will have a solid year, if his performance will fall off drastically, if he will struggle to stay on the field because preparing for sports with and without PED are not the same. Or maybe he simply finds another PED that is not being detected yet and has the best year of his pro career. Or maybe he gets caught again and is out most of the year..

Again you just don't know..If he comes cheap there is a reason for it. It is because you don't know what he is going to give you and I am sure some clubs rather just stay away from a player coming off a drug suspension. I rather see the Mets spend the money on a guy with a better track record.

That right there says it all. It's ok to be hopeful, but you can't rely COMPLETELY on hope. You NEED to sign talent...you NEED to spend SOME money....
