Heres the thing, the point is this when the Mets have an opportunity to put the hammer down so to speak they do not, they let other teams hang around and their horrific BP coughs up the lead and usually gives up more than enough runs so to take the heart right out of the offense knowing they are 3,4, 5 runs or more down with 1 or 2 innings left to play, this scenario keeps happening over and over and over again. I knew the Mets were losing this game when they lead 2-0 after 6, the Phillies knew they were going to win, the Mets knew it and it showed, they are probably 2, 3 or 4 years away from being able to put the hammer down, right now they are interesting and scrappy but when they need to win a game or should win a game they tank out.

I AGREE WITH YOU EXCEPT THE 2,3, 4 YEARS THING. I FEEL THEY NEED A, I DON'T GIVE A SH#T TYPE LEADER. SOMEONE WITH A BIG NAME THAT WOULD GET ON THE PITCHERS FOR NOT RETALIATING AFTER A PITCHER HAS THROWN A BALL, TO CLOSE TO ONE OF OUR BATTERS HEAD OR TAKE CARE OF BUSINESS HIM SELF AND CHARGE THE MOUND.

TEACHING THE PLAYERS TO FORGET THE 2 OUT OF 3 MENTALITY BULL SH#t AND GO AFTER THE KILL SHOT. SHOWING THEM THAT IN ORDER TO TAKE THE NEXT LEVEL, YOU HAVE TO HAVE NO FEAR OF THE OTHER TEAM. MAYBE THEN THE PLAYERS WILL REALIZE THAT THE GUYS ON THE OTHER TEAM ARE NO DIFFERENT FROM THEM. HELPING THE TEAM GROW A SENSE OF, WORTH.

This team does lack killer instinct and an "in your face" type leader. The 86 Mets had both. They got 2 runs in the 1st inning and wanted more. Scored 3 in the 2nd and it wasn't enough. We have a lot of scrappy players, but they're all nice guys. Do we even have ONE guy close to being a Keith, Gary, Wally, or Ray Knight? One is all we need.
