Give me Billy. People quickly forget what it was like having Armando on the mound.

Looper in 2004, Wagner in 2006, and Krod last season (before he was traded), and Francisco really hasn't been bad this season either, all the rest of them were before my time.

From just watching games, Franco then Wagner. Too young to ever have watched Tug play, only highlights.

The thing I like about fransisco is that he doesn't choke...he gets beat alot but he isn't choking Krod was similar just a better pitcher...the other guys on this list actually choke

Back in '69 they had two good relievers aside from McGraw who were sometimes called on to close games, and did a great job - Ron Taylor and Calvin Koonce. In later years they had Skip Lockwood and Neil Allen (who was traded for Keith Hernandez). Those guys made me feel more confident than the closers we have now. Then again, with current salaries and the more defined "bullpen specialist" roles more is expected from today's closers.

How can you tell if a guy is choking or just getting beat?

1) armando
2) wagner ---------If it was a regular season game, he'd be my first choice of these given. Playoffs, he was always terrible no matter what team he was on (Astros, Red Sox, Mets).
3) franco
4) looper
5) fransisco
6)krod

The 1988-1989 version of Randy Myers would be my first choice if it was available. Myers was traded to the Reds for John Franco and formed part of the Nasty Boys bullpen with Norm Charlton and Rob Dibble that helped the Reds win the World Series in 1990. Myers had a great 1997 with the Orioles, saving 45 of 46 on a division winning team.

The mid-1980's Jesse Orosco was pretty reliable.
