I lifted these numbers from a post in MarlinsBaseball.com (http://forums.marlinsbaseball.com/topic/97002-so-what-now/) ...

Marlins Performance vs. League Average
====================================
Ca: OPS .600 vs. League Average OPS .702
1B: OPS .586 vs. League Average OPS .776 (Wow!)
2B: OPS .708 vs. League Average OPS .708
3B: OPS .784 vs. League Average OPS .741
SS: OPS .720 vs. League Average OPS .694
LF: OPS .731 vs. League Average OPS .772
CF: OPS .738 vs. League Average OPS .730
RF: OPS .893 vs. League Average OPS .791
PH: OPS .821 vs. League Average OPS .706

We've only used 5 starting pitchers so far, which I think is pretty lucky health-wise, with an ERA of 3.99. Our bullpen ERA is 4.59.

We're mostly average, with two positions well below average (Catcher and 1B) and one position well above average (RF).

Our team defense has been average (http://www.baseball-reference.com/leagues/NL/2012-standard-fielding.shtml)

Forgetting in-game strategy for a second, this tells me that we're not performing well individually. That means we're just not a very good team, which is the GM's fault, or we're not being motivated properly, which is Ozzie's fault. We're "lucky" to only be 3 games under .500 with this kind of performance.

Good post.

Gaby moved to make 1B better. We shall see.
Buck is killing us - obvious.
Starting pitching is ranked 13th... but that is behind Washington (1) and NYM (3) which doesn't help.
Bullpen is destroying the team. That 4.65 ERA puts us 28th in the MLB. Bell is the head of that disaster. I never want to see him again.

I don't think we are lucky to be where we are. We are where we should be given those numbers. About an average team.

The question is- what will they do to correct anything? If they do nothing - there is going to be a major revolt.

What I don't understand is that the FO has to realize that they need to win THIS year. That the attendance won't keep if they don't win. Do they care enough about winning to make the necessary decisions (like ship off Buck and demote Bell)? As a fan and season ticket holder, I pray they do.... but I no longer have faith. And I will reassert- Beinfest keeps getting a pass by most.

Here's to a second half of the season that is more like May than June.

305, with Stanton out, I think it is all downhill from here. Bell, Hanley and Buck must go. Throw Gaby in there for good measure, and there have to be some trades on the horizon. Ruggiano will allow Beinfest to stay a little longer, but something has to give. 28,000 is ok for now, but that too will start to dwindle should we not make any trades... The PIRATES are in first place by GOD!

sorry you bought into all the hype and bought season tickets........you are either very well off or just a masochist..............

Before I would invest in season tkts I would want to be sure we had a fairly good team first....but until then Ill endure them on TV until I get too sick to watch them any more.....im getting very close at this point.

Ive been to games in the past where they were as bad as now and wondered "what the heck am I doing here wasting my time....this is NOT fun".........

I wont be doing that anymore.

the phillies have an excuse....all those injuries etc etc.

Marlins just have bad guys evaluating talent.....if they hadnt wasted so much on Bell and Buck we could have had some really good talent like Gio and others.

They offered giO as much as Washington.... So cheapness wasn't the issue. As for season Tix I've endured worse years.

Gio was acquired via trade and the marlins didn't have the prospects to get him. The cause? An inept scouting department that had 5 first round picks in a year and came away with chris volstad as the prize. Then they waste another years first round pick on a guy who went to Beinfest's alma matter. Forget about them going out and acquiring under the radar talent from other organizations, they can't even spot talent within their own system (read alejandro de aza). Between placating a snobby, self-absorbed owner and an obsession with endearing themselves to the latin fanbase, this team is going nowhere fast. For those of you who have resigned yourselves to stick along for the ride, I marvel at your tolerance for pain, and wish you all the best.

Beinfest is indeed an issue. Their trade offer was more players but less talent. For all the reasons you indicate, Beinfest deserves more ire. Yet people skip him.
