Verlander is leading the CY in my opinion. He has struggled in July, but Felix also went thru 6 games where he stunk in 5.
Leads in IP
Leads in K's
Leads in BAA
2nd in ERA

With the callup of additional arms, I was surprised to read that the Ms have no plans to change the usage of Felix, or Vargas, over the rest of the year.

I don't see the point of squeezing four more starts out of each of them, or of leaving Felix out there for 100+ pitches nearly constantly, when the season is done. Its not for the fans, Felix at home on Friday drew only 17K fans.

I don't believe Felix is really in it for the CY this year, his "away" stats just aren't mind blowing, and that was something the voters in 2010 were really impressed with (cuz everybody knows what a pitcher's yard safeco is). His closest competition in 2010, was probably Price, Price being very much the leader in 2012. Felix' overall ERA in 2010 was much better that Price'. That is not the case in 2012.

With Price' injury issues he's going to end up with something like 40-50 innings less than Verlander and Felix. The Cy may not go to Felix but it certainly won't go to a guy who may not even reach 200 innings.

Price, if current reports are correct, will be back in time to get at least 3 more starts. Possibly 4 if he's needed at the very tail end. If he's under 200 innings, he won't be under by much. I agree GS/IP is a factor in CY determination. But if Price keeps his numbers strong (especially his ERA), I can't see him being kicked to the curb for have 2 less starts, or 10 innings under, supposed line-in-the-sand playing time type numbers.

I just don't think a tenth of a point in ERA and 4-5 wins will be enough to make up a 30+ innings gap, worse walk-rate and less strikeouts. Maybe, I wouldn't be entirely surprised I guess. I just don't see it, unless Felix really stinks it up.

I don't think Felix should be penalized for fewer wins, given his at times anemic run support, and the fact he plays on a basement club. He's just not gonna have as many wins as the other guys, and its not really about him as a pitcher.

It seems like 90% of the top guys in the AL have missed at least 3-5 starts.

Unfortunately his last 2 outings will probably cost him the Cy Young award.

with his last 3 outings he is out of the running - era in those over 9.

I was pondering this as Toronto lit him up last night. His "away" pitching has not been elite in 2012, and the last three starts have been his worst string of the year (so much for May being "the month" he loses it).

Verlander pitches in a much less pitcher friendly home yard. Price is now apparently going to get some additional starts in. Both are on contenders, which does help their candidacy. Felix' 2012 now ranks behind both these guys.

It was Felix' award to lose IMO and the last 3 starts probably did that for him.
