I usually go to the batting cages every weekend for fun and to get a good workout. They have a really good one here in San Diego with a 1 Pro Model cage out of the 5 cages. It has no arms or chutes, and has real baseballs.
I decided to take some video of my batting practice yesterday.
Does anyone else here go to the cages? Any cool stories or baseball players here?

Those are really nice cages. To be honest, anything over 70 mph nowadays and I am fanning.

I can handle bout 80 ... but yeah :( Used to be able to catch up to 90 mph. Not even close to it anymore. Never hit off a machine like that. Usually just chutes or arms ... the arm ones sometimes mess with my head.

Very nice Mike.

I couldn't tell what kind of pitching machines those were. By chutes, do you mean the ones that you put the ball in and they have the double wheels?

Yeah that machine I used I have only found one in all the city good thing is you can set the speed from they also have 4 Iron Mike Machines with rubber balls. The only caveat is you have to pick up all the baseballs in all cages at this facility and reload them. It’s also pricey so I only go 2 times a month but I like the pro machine much better. It's challenging because you can't see the balls come down. It only beeps a couple times and the light turns red.

The other cages in the city have the rubber dimple ball machines and they all max out at 70 for safety reasons.

When I lived in NY the cages there had any speed up to 100. I tried the 95 once buy chopped the ball a lot. 85-90 is a good fast speed to max out at if I'm up to it.

Usually the double wheels the chute you can see the balls lined up to drop in to the wheels. Problem is those chutes are notorious for the balls to get stuck.

I'm assuming you rent the cage at an hourly rate there?

They rent 20 mins 1/2 hr and 1 hour rates. It's like $40 for an hour on that machine and less for the Iron Mike machines. If I go in on Sat, Sun theres the same college kid working there. He usually only charges me $20-30.

A cool thing on their website some of their clients are MLB players I never seen any myself as they probably go during the weekday.

The best deal is going to 2 other cages which I can do tokens for 20 bucks, take my several breaks in between to last a couple hours of batting time.
