Why is everyone saying Jaso isnt part of the future? Hes been one of the pleasant suprises on this team.

I'm not everyone. Jaso potentially can play 1B. Wouldn't he be better there than "pop fly" smoak?

I have no idea why the guy with the highest OPS on the team and who's only 28 would not be a part of the team's future, unless it's that they're really that cheap and would rather pay closer to league minimum for a rookie to take his place.

Who says that? He hasn't hit arbitration yet, and even if he doesn't keep this up, he's still a good backup.

The question you should be asking is why Tampa Bay decided to get rid of him for Josh Lueke.

Who do you mean by everyone? Do you mean everyone in the blogosphere or everyone actually running the team? If the former, who cares. If the latter, WTH are they thinking?

Yes blogosphere. several folks in here. Folks on 710 kiro... Whenever they talk about the future they all say he wont be with the team as he isnt part of the rebuild. HMMM
Seriously Zunino wont be up for about 2 years at min. Moore well who knows wheat he will do when he gets off the disabled list. Montero probably will be our DH/PT catcher. Even if you look 2 years from now Zunino will be the new catcher probably getting 1/3 the AB's until he establishes himself.

Well, at the moment, I think Montero and Jaso are going to be the catchers until Zunino is ready, which may not be for two years. In the meantime, they might use someone like Moore (assuming he stays) or another veteran like Olivo to help fill time.

There's also always the possibility that Zunino never makes the major leagues. The team has to be ready for that possibility and not put all it's eggs in a single basket (which might also explain why they drafted a ton of catchers last year and a high profile catcher this year).

Far as I know he's never played there. I think the theory is he can be taught to play first, which is generally one of the least demanding positions on the field.

If the team officially trades Jaso and it turns out badly for us, I will buy a copy of Shipwrecked! for every Mariner fan I know.

Maybe we should start Jaso as catcher, Olivo as backup/DH and get ready to move Montero to 1st. This is very frusterating our 1st baseman is hitting what 203 now? 11 hr's our cleanup hitter tonight was a awesome 207. RF hitting 260 with 4 hr's making 18 or so million? I know that will change next year but maybe we can get someone that can actually hit next year. Montero is a start, moving in the fences will help. I was down in Seattle last weekend and couldnt believe how thick the air was I can now understand why hitters would not want to play there espicially with the dimensions of Safeco. Seattle is a awesome city and Safeco field is a very nice park but I would not want to go there to watch my career die.

I dont understand why they just dont install a Humidor. How much can it cost? Its gotta be alot cheaper then moving the fields in.

Because a humidor doesn't do what you think it does?

Humidors add humidity to a room and moisture. Specifically, the Coors Field humidor is a room where they keep the baseballs in order to get them slightly moist so they're heavier and wont travel as far in the thin mile-high air.

So we need bizarro world humidors!

But seriously, doesn't the ball carry better supposedly when the roof is closed? Couldn't they just keep it closed or something as a temporary band aid til they can potentially re-adjust things in the offseason?

There has been some evidence that balls travel farther with the roof closed, but it has never been substantial enough to matter. Plus, what would be the point of having a retractable roof if you didn't use it?

They can also keep the balls in a room in Seattle that isnt MOIST and COLD.

IDK, if I were a superstar, with a suitably large ego, I'd want to try going somewhere where a bunch of young players could watch my behaviors to learn how to be successful hitters at the major league level.
