We got 4 of the Phillies top 10 prospects for Lee. If the Cubs are asking for anywhere close to that, the Indians simply cannot afford to make that deal.

For the right offer , Diamondbacks may move Justin Upton . http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2012/07/dbacks-could-consider-offers-for-justin-upton.html

and who could we afford to move that the D-backs would want? I know they won't deal lindor so i am pretty sure we don't have what it would take to get him.

Liriano would be a good pick up because he's a good buy-low candidate right now. His peripherals suggest he's been better than his ERA, and his season really looks a lot like Justin Masterson's...horrible first month that inflated the ERA, but he's been dynamite since June 1st...biggest obstacle is that the Twins hate to trade within their division.

San Diego better quit playing Carlos Quentin, he's costing them by the day. He is in an 0-18 slump and his average is down to .267.

I know this has been discussed before, but I wonder what it would take to land Victorino from Philly. He's currently in the middle of his worst overall offensive season in the big leagues, but a closer look at his numbers suggest he could really be helpful. The first thing that pops out to me is that he's killed left-handed pitching this year, to the tune of a .316 average and .983 OPS. You have to like that, and he's actually hit lefties significantly better than righties for his entire career. Victorino has always been considered a very good defensive outfielder as well. The challenge would be figuring out what to do with him and Brantley. Victorino hasn't played anywhere other than CF since 2008, but Brantley is not anywhere close to the defensive CF that Victorino has been for his entire career. I feel like the defensive position thing could pretty easily work itself out, maybe shifting Brantley to left field on most days (where he has rated very well defensively), booting Cunningham and/or Duncan from the roster.

Victorino would be a good pick up. Honestly I'd probably drop Cunningham if we had Victorino. At least Duncan can run into one every once in a while. Cunningham, while he has been good defensively, he has not shown much offensively at all. Either way with Brantley, Choo, and Victorino sounds like a good outfield to me. 3B, LF, DH, and C have been our biggest problems offensively. Santana is bound to have a better second half, so we need either Headley or Victorino. Or both....

I wonder what the Phillies asking price is for Victorino he might not be the power bat we could really use but he would make the outfield better on defense and hits for average and brings speed.

Amaro bested Shapiro in the Cliff Lee deal, Antonetti better watch out when dealing with the Phillies. So Brantley moves to left, where does Sizemore play when he comes back? Again, Sizemore/Hafner are holding this team hostage/their hands are tied and cannot escape. Well let me rephrase, they CAN escape/but they will not admit mistakes and releasing Sizemore/Hafner is too much for their egos, even if it would help them when the division. Yea Hafner gets a hold of one every now and then, but mostly little grounders to the first or second baseman, can't play the filed, can't run, needs to rest every 3 days or so, pahleeze how pathetic/Sizemore has been on the DL now what, every year since 2008?/and we gave him 5 million for this season??...oh I forgot, Shapiro said '5 million is really not all that much "/but he neglected to say how that 5 million is strangling us from doing much else!;-).....It will be Detroit, Chicago and then us/I'm hoping they wash their hands of Sizemore/Hafner for next year and go after a couple of right handed hitting power bats/their fine from the left side.

Wow, how many different subject matters were you planning on talking about in one paragraph?

Yeah if you add a solid defender like Victorino, a guy who actually makes the outfield defense significantly better, Cunningham becomes less important and a power hitter off the bench like Duncan is actually valuable. If we were acquiring an all-bat guy like Josh Willingham (just a random example), I'd say Duncan goes and Cunningham stays, but Victorino really does change the game in a lot of ways...makes a ton of contact, steals bases, plays great D, and hits lefties for nice power.

Yeah, and it was believed that at one point a deal was on the table but Philly pulled back because they didn't want to jeopardize their 2012 season...perhaps there's a better chance now that the Phillies are 14 games out.

That's what I thought. I know this team needs more power but victorino seems to be one of the better all around players available.

I would love to get Victorino. How would you see the lineup playing out if we were able to add him? I see him being at the top somewhere but that is currently where we have had good consistency from Choo/Cabrera/Kipnis.
