walks a run in, and no one in the dugout says anything. Walks have been our achilles heel all year, and it just keeps happening.

It <sucks, he walks too many and his WHIP is too high but when you consider he only gave up 1 earned run in 6 innings we only have the (lack of) offense to blame yet again.

Yeah, Zito was in trouble all day, but that was the only run he allowed in 6 innings, so I'm not going to complain about him...just gotta tip your cap to Latos- he killed us again today.

It's hard to argue with Zito's effort, but 6 BB's in 6 innings? The hitting was lame today, but by my way of thinking, knowing Zito's history with BB's costing him ballagames, if I'm the pitching coach I'm out there talking to him after that 1st BB, reminding him to throw strikes and don't give any free passes. If they beat you with hits, so be it. But don't just go lame and walk em around.

I didn't actually see the game and I'm glad I didn't but I thought Zito would get absolutely torched today.

So 6 innings 1 ER is more than acceptable.

It's Zito what can you do, I'm sure he walks a lot even when he tries to throw strikes. It happens.

Yea he walked 6, but he only gave up one run. Our bat's struggled to score runs... it is what it is, we can't win every game, in fact, we only need to win at maybe .600 the rest of the way to win the west easy.

There is a crew of like 5 of them that only come out after a couple losses post their ridiculous threads like this one or that one lateshow started, and then go hide under a rock till the next chance to post stupidity.

Zito got homeplated in Saturday' game. During one of the innings where he walked 6 batters, the umpire would not call a third strike at a Red' players knees, in another at bat during the blind justice set Sanchez did not move his glove, guess what(!!) another ball is called. Then the 9th inning Latos throws one about 6-8 inches above homeplate, STRIKE, and the final out 6" outside, STRIKE, game over. Homeplate umpire must have seen the post game menu and wanted to get in early.

Yet many on this forum be-yotch about Zito walking 6 players, and all the Reds could do is score 1 run !!

Those numbers don't tell the whole story though...

1 of the 6 was an intentional walk.

3 others were BORDERLINE strikes. Although I agree the umpire made the right call and they were balls, it doesn't change the fact that they were great pitches. Zito is NOT going to a fastball by anyone, so it's not like he he can just pony up and throw one through the middle of the zone on full counts. He needs to utilize the corners effectively and mix his speeds to be successful and although the walks didn't really show to be in his favor, the pitches he threw that led to some of those walks are indicative of the good control he had. Those pitches, although balls, were not hittable and I think we all know he was looking for a swing through on a pitch just off the plate.
