You get no argument from me, but then again, I wasn't making the case that Morneau is inferior to Loney, just that he's putting up numbers worthy of a platoon player. But you said it, he's a "former" MVP, and sadly, he's never been the same since suffering from post-concussion syndrome. At $14M for next season, I would say that the money is probably best spent elsewhere.

The thing is that Morneau's numbers against lefties this year are horrible, even worse than Loney. So even if the Dodgers could find a way to dump Loney, they would probably have to keep Rivera to play against southpaws.

LOL. Morneau's numbers against southpaws are abysmal, but LaHair's numbers are microscopic.

LaHair is way overhyped. IMO, he looks like your typical AAAA type.

Loney will be gone next year anyway. Unless Moreau is solid and can consistently hit we should keep Loney to save Dee Gordon's throws when he returns. If Dee doesn't hit and throw better, we will get another 3B and move Hanley to SS and Dee to AAA.

Morneau is a platoon player. Nothing wrong with that. LaHair would be a horrible choice. Morneau still bashes right handers. Let him platoon with Rivera this year and maybe Sands or someone else next year. Sands power off the bench and Morneau's power off the bench in platoon situations would be a plus.

Here's another off the wall idea...send Uribe, Tony Jr, FedEx or a Single A pitcher to Yanks for Swisher.

They need another Glove to play 3b while A-Rod rehabs; Tony Jr and Ichiro platoon in the outfield (similar players and styles to share the load); they need another Catcher cuz Martin ain't cutting it, or if they prefer an arm in the low minors.

The get rid of Swisher early which allows them (financially) to pursue another arm. They also get an IF, an OF, and their choice of Catcher or Pitcher. They will not be resigning Swisher cuz of salary cap issues and the return Gardener next year. (They will be in on Hamilton...imo)

We can eat this years' money on all the players we send and absorb Swisher's contract.

LA now has a line-up of
Ellis 2b (R)
Either LF (L)
Kemp CF (R)
HamRam 3b (R)
Swisher RF (S)
Rivera 1b (R)
Ellis C (R)
Cruz Short (S)

If Dee makes it back, put him a Short, batting #1, move everyone down one. Switch Either & Kemp if opposing SP is lefty or righty.

C'mon, crazy idea, but it "could" work...

>>>No. A platoon player is someone you anticipate to be role player. That would be LaHair or Choi. If Morneau gets 400 AB's that means he's hurt. It wasn't part of the plan. He's healthy right now.<<<

He's healthy now?? In April Justin said the symptoms of his head injury still exsist...he questioned how much longer he can play ball! He just came off the DL in June! He was on the DL in may too! He missed games in July because of wooziness!

The guy won't make 400 ABs this year...so no better than a platoon guy!

Look I admit I may be delusional about LaHair being a .270-.280 hitter with 30+ hrs a year...but you guys are just as delusional thinking Justin Is healthy and back to the player he was...

Looks like the Dodgers just might get Victorino after all (if only to keep the Giants from swiping him, lol). Either way, the revolving door in LF would finally come to an end and the lead-off spot would be settled once and for all. Can't complain about that, even though the hatred for the guy on this board almost borders on the obscene.

Or they can just go for semi-broke and get Pence instead...

Me and a co-worker were talking about the victorino rumor today. We both dont want him, only because of the past battles with him, BUT, i would HATE to see him go to the giants. I know he would just kill us if he goes there. Got a bad feeling about that, so for that reason only, id say lets get him.

Yup, that's something many on here who still have it in for Victorino just don't realize. If the Dodgers don't get him, THE GIANTS MOST LIKELY WILL AND HE WILL INDEED WIND UP WHOOPING THE DODGERS AGAIN JUST LIKE HE DID BOTH TIMES IN THE NLCS BECAUSE THAT'S JUST THE KIND OF PLAYER HE IS!!!

Whew...sorry for the caps outburst (lol), but I really had to make the message clear to some of these folks who have trouble grasping the sheer importance of making such a deal. Dodgers get Victorino, that's one problem they'll no longer have to worry about coming back to bite them in the rear like it's done several times before. Just makes good old fashioned sense to me.

I actually like the idea of Victorino on the Dodgers. GG, AS, "flyin" switch hitting lead-off hitter with good OBP. He's been excellent in lots of post season play. Dodger fans hate him? I think that would quickly change, just like our doubts about Hanley, Manny & Padilla.

If the Dodger management would be concerned about fan reaction with Victorino, put me down as "I'd love it". Pence is also a nice pick-up, but no GG defense. Also, he'd make our 4-man slugger slate a bit too right handed. Still, I wouldn't be a bit disappointed to have either Shane or Hunter in blue.

With any of the LF potential bats, could we make one of either Puig/Shane/Hunter a 3rd baseman? I still have hopes of David Wright, or Freese, eventually at third.

I really do like the idea of three GG outfielders. Adding Shane is a big plus in so many aspects of the game:

Defense
Lead-Off
OBP
Speed
Hustle
Switch Hitting
Good Pop

Count me in on Victorino as a Dodger, leading off ahead of our revised new swat line-up. His offense (and size) reminds me of Furcal.
