I know this will be music to PhxMikes ears, but I sure hope he didn't get fired or something. Sounds like it though, but will really bum me out if it's true. I like having him in the booth, and think him and Grace make a great team together. I don't like this is he's gone, and think it's horrible timing to boot. Don't mess with anything when your team is playing good ball, announcers included!

another article I found with a little more info to it. Still doesn't sound good, but maybe a little better.

It would be odd to fire a broadcaster mid-season.

Kind of strange. Grace takes off for a few days, and nothing is said about it. The day he comes back Sutton is out and they post this article about how he is given time off. Wonder if him and Grace have had enough of each other and they just can't get along or something. I could see them keeping Gracie over Sutton if it came to something like that. Be a little strange and childish if the two couldn't at least hold it together for the remainder of the year though, so who knows.

While it is strange, I doubt there is a problem between Sutton and Grace. If they had a conflict it would have shown up several years ago.

Sutton did confirm there was no police involved, so that's good news for Mike. : )

"I know this will be music to PhxMikes ears..."

Like beautiful violin music! What a pleasure to view tonight's game! I did get batteries for one of my radios and was prepared to listen to the radio broadcast, then got a pleasant surprise. Am hoping for a full symphony orchestra now, but i doubt I'll be so lucky.

In another article I read, he says it's a "family" issue. He's hoping to be back for tomorrow nights game.

Sorry Mike.

That's Sutton's side of the story, BaxFann. In the same article it says "Sources close to the club indicated that Sutton...could be away from the team indefinitely."

Maybe I'm reading too much into it, YBC, but the the way that the club phrased it, it sounded to me like there's more than just a family issue involved. It depends on whether you put more trust in the team's spin or Sutton's spin.

"What team spin? They said the same thing he did, that Sutton will be taking some time off to attend to some personal matters.

PhxMike spin you mean?"

Come on, YBC. I'm not stupid! You can't see that the team spokesman used one way of characterizing the reason for the action and Sutton used a different way? That in itself doesn't guarantee that one is being untruthful and the other is not, just that they each chose to explain it the way they respectively saw fit. If you don't like my defining that as "spin," then so be it.

_______________________

"When asked to confirm if the broadcaster was under suspension, team officials declined to specifically comment."

Query: Why didn't they just say "He's got some personal matters to attend to"? Only Sutton said that. I call that "spin." You can call it whatever you like!

He asked the team to keep it private as possible. So, my thought is ....The team is trying to keep it as private as possible for him.

We shall see...

Thank you for making that point and doing it cordially rather than defiantly and arrogantly as some make theirs.

You would think the team and Sutton would issue a joint statement and then refuse to discuss the matter any further. One possible reason that hasn't been brought up is health, which is something the Dbacks cannot discuss.

You guys sound like a bunch of old women, starting rumors when you have no idea what’s happening in his life. Hopefully there is no health problems with him or his family. I’m not a big Sutton fan, but I wish him no harm. You can speculate all you want but in the end it’s all just rumors.

On another note: Gibson no longer reminds me of Carl Spangler. You know the beloved Bill Murray character from Caddy Shack. While I was once convinced he was entirely unintelligible, I now see something that looks like a real baseball manager.

LOL!!! I had to laugh at your comment about Gibson being 'entirely unintelligible' -- I like Gibson, but MAN is he lacking in the 'speaking' department! Watching interviews with him-- sheesh sometimes it's *painful* :) He almost NEVER looks at any reporter in the eye.. he is always staring off into some other 'space' as he's talking.. he never blinks.. he is COMPLETELY monotone.. and yes, a good part of the time, he is UNINTELLIGIBLE!!! :)

I've never seen a person interview like that :)

I couldn't agree more. I happened to catch a post game interview of Bob Melvin several weeks ago and it becomes so obvious that Gibson can't do interviews when compared to Bob or most other managers.

I totally agree with Schulte bumbling....I can't stand his broadcasting. IF he's going to be on TV he has to realize we can SEE what he is saying!! He makes SO many mistakes. Drives me crazy when a player hits a fly ball and he reacts likes its over the wall and its caught between 2nd and the center fielder...did it last night again. "Young hits a deep fly ball....it's deep in center" It was caught in MID center.....that's ok I guess if he's doing radio cause it adds excitment for the listner who can't see whats going on...but...HELLO....we can see its just a pop up!!!

I think Sutton and Gracie both do a great job when they are NOT working together, but get those two together and its like a high school reunion....they talk about everything EXCEPT the game! If they have to choose between Sutton and Gracie, I say dump Grace, he's a bomb ready to explode both on and off the broadcast. Lets not forget about the time he thought his mic was off and he said some things that he had to come back and apolize for, the DUI and I'm sure there are other things. Play by play guys are hard to come by...there are a TON of former players who can do what gracie does.
