I LOVE DARON SUTTON, I THINK HE'S GREAT!!!!!!!!!

There, I had to get that out right at the top, wanted it SEEN, incase Mr. Sutton actully comes on and reads these threads.

Man, I don't understand all the 'haters' here about Sutton?! I think he's absolutely fantastic!!! I think he and Grace together are just GREAT-- for me, they strike the most EXCELLENT balance of calling the game, and also keeping it loose, and light, and ENTERTAINING... it is like sitting in your house watching the game with two of your good friends... you get PLENTY of seriousness and game-calling... what is wrong with some stories and humor mixed in???!!!!

I don't get all of you!?!!!!!!!!

And just to add-- I've had to listen to the White Sox guys a TON of times over the years- I used to get MLB Extra Innings and followed Oakland, so I heard them a LOT.. my whole family and I could not STAND them... my God, they'd put you right to sleep!!! BORING!!!!! GREY!!!!!! ..and that, "HE GONE!!!!!" ..oh my GOSH my skin would literally crawl every frickin' time he said that!!!

Mr. Sutton, yes, there are those out there who don't care for you.. but MAKE NO MISTAKE, there are a TON of us out here who LOVE you... who are both educated and entertained by you.. you are professional but also have a PERSONALITY.. I guess some people just can't handle that...

THANK YOU MR. SUTTON, AND I PRAY YOU NEVER LEAVE THE TEAM!!!!!!!

Oh- as kind of a side note--

I happened to be in my car driving, I had on Mac and Gatos, 92.3.. it was somewhere between 6 and 6:40pm.. and all of a sudden I believe it was Jamie West-- could've been someone else.. who all of a sudden came on and said there was breaking news about Dbacks broadcaster Daron Sutton.. they specifically said THE TEAM HAS SUSPENDED HIM... went on to say it was a 'personal matter' ... but they DID specifically say he had 'been suspended'....

I was so surprised and so curious, I actually called the ticket phone number, just to ask them if they could tell me what had happened! When I called, the girl that answered, was SO shocked-- she said NONE Of the ticket agents even knew ANYthing about it, and that *I* was the one informing all of THEM about it!!! ..that's how 'Breaking News' it really was!

If by chance you were including me among the "haters" you alluded to, I don't hate anyone, including Sutton. As I've posted numerous times, the reasons I dislike him are (A) ho numerous, over-the-top "Swiiiiiiing & a miss" and "Hiiiiiiigh flyyyyyy" calls, and (B) his silliness while interacting with Grace. Gracie is fine with anyone else. Sutton could be a decent announcer if he would can the comedy and get out of the habit of stretttttttttttttching his calls, which irritate me to no end. Apart from those two things, he has a good knowledge of baseball and the capability to be a first class TV play-by-play man.

There is one reason I simply refuse to watch the Diamondbacks with any frequency....his name is Daron Sutton. He is the worst broadcaster I've ever heard. The combination of Grace with him is just intolerable.

I couldn't agree more. Sutton and Grace "are just fine".

Sutton and Grace are beyond obnoxious. It was even worse when Eric Byrnes was on the team.

When I lived in Arizona, I could not stand watching more than a couple minutes of their broadcasts at a time. Sutton and his "Come on boys lets get some more runs!" or his "The D-Backs lead 1-0 going to the bottom of the first, it could be enough with Webb on the mound" are beyond homerism. Yes, all announcers are going to be homers to a certain extent, but it's beyond ridiculous with the d-Backs.

I've always felt like they try to be like Duane Kuiper and Mike Krukow of the Giants (Who've they expressed admiration of on the air), but fail horribly.

Thom Brennaman was better than Sutton, but I don't think Brennaman was all that great either. If Sutton and Grace got canned, it would be the best thing for D-Back broadcasts.

I don't. They're the biggest reason I avoided D-backs broadcasts when I lived in Arizona.

I just came to the board to see if there were any U of A College World Series threads. I saw this while I was here.

Then stop complaining about something that does not affect you anymore.

There are any number of sayings that describe the same thing: "One man's meat is another man's poison," "That's why they make both chocolate and vanilla ice cream," etc., etc. Some of you LOVE Daron Sutton, others can't stand him. You can't please everybody. That's what makes the world an interesting place.

I've been exposed to various baseball announcers for decades. I've listened to the best and the worst. After hearing Vin Scully, Red Barber, Bob Prince, Ernie Harwell, Russ Hodges, Lon Simmons, Harry Caray and others, Daron Sutton is way down...hold it...let me change that to "waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay down" on the totem pole.

I didn't think Thom Brennaman was too bad. The only thing I can remember that bugged me about him was that he constantly griped about batters "First pitch hacking." I don't think he ever understood that sometimes a team swinging at the first pitch frequently throughout the game is a planned strategy because the pitcher usually made the first pitch a fast ball down the middle. Then, after gaining that first strike, the remaining pitches were largely breaking balls at the corners and more difficult to hit. In Brennaman's book it made more sense for every batter to take at least a couple of pitches before swinging.

When and if Sutton returns, some of us are going to be happy, others not so much. That's life.

I like Sutton and Grace together but then my expectations have never been at the Vin Scully level. Sutton and Grace are self-effacing and funny and never sound pompous like some in the big markets do. So...Gracie disappears for about ten days, returns, but now Sutton is gone. Sheesh.

I seriously doubt there is a conflict between Sutton and Grace. They've been working together for over five years without any problems.

Ron, I'm not so sure. I have a feeling this is what's going on. They seem to needle each other, sometimes those are destined to blow out...Maybe it finally reached a head.

And to add my 2 cents- I like Grace and Sutton, but I have no problems with the announcers tonight- Grace and Schulte. It's a good dynamic.

Today's broadcast was refreshing to me in that there was no focus on any foolishness in the stands. Show a great catch by a fan or a sign or whatever, but going on for innings about someone's clothes or first date or whatever takes away from the broadcast and our team's credibility.

I want intelligent reporting and insight about what's happening on the field and in the dugout. I really don't care that Arlington has a $26 hot dog or that a guy in the stands is on a blind date.

There's no 100% answer for what happened but many are speculating numerous theories:

1. Bleacher Report reported today that he had made some comments about bringing some players up and criticizing the team that made Kendrick upset. With that, he was told he was suspended.

2. Supposedly, he and Grace don't get along at all and hence for the split. Maybe that's the reason Grace was gone last week--yet nothing was said. (he still might be serving time for his DUI but that seems so long ago)

3. According to Sutt it's just some family stuff and was hoping to be back last night.

Take your choice; none of them make sense.

Agreed, I'm an old fogey who, when the game is on, want the game broadcasted. The only thing today was that 14 year old girl in the booth, that's just as bad as last night's Marge from APS for a while half inning. Baseball people only in the booth, and limit that.

Towers=OK
Marge from APS in the booth for a half inning=Not OK
14 year old girl with a crush on Ryan Roberts in the booth for a half inning=Not OK
Jodi Jackson "up close and personal" garbage WHILE IN PLAY = Not OK
