How do you propose it is enforced? Would every pregnant woman have to register with the government? Would there be a new wing of the government in charge of investigating things such as all miscarriages (to make sure it wasn't some kind of abortion)? I'm just trying to get an idea of how it's possible to enforce. Or would it simply be that all the abortion clinics would go underground, similar to drug dealing.

Haha, funny answers guys. Any of our hardcore anti-choice people here want to answer me? It was a real question.

I would assume it would be enforced the same way it was before abortion was legal. Is it too hard to remember back that far?

How was it? And is that what you advocate going back to? I really didn't think it would be this hard to get even a single real answer. Maybe I should have thrown in some personal attacks? Maybe more partisan stuff about tax returns or college transcripts?

Maybe more partisan stuff about tax returns or college transcripts?
>>>>>>>>>>>>>

That would help........;)

I think the reason no one will respond though is that they know you're right but don't want to admit it.
If that law was passed, Republicans would then have to create a new government agency go after abortionists or hire more agents in existing law enforcement agencies. So now the party of "small government" just made government bigger.
And yes, like drugs or any other illegal endeavor, it's very legal status will create crime where there wasn't any previously.

What about the "morning after" pill? They'd probably be sold for big $$$ on the black market.

Suxed. Nope, met no Hawks...didn't even see one. My buddy got there late so I missed the whole autograph session...which was a whole half hour....I did get to go on the field...Which was ok, but I'm no Sox fan.

It can't be enforced without massive government involvement--or with the help of "concerned citizens" (rats, snitches, etc--people that turn in women they suspect of having had an abortion).

Which is why I think that such a law or amendment would be in the books more as a "feel good" law, just to make the pro-life stance official. If they can catch a few women or doctors here and there, they'd be happy.

Also, it's worth pointing out that the rest of the amendments (except the boring 27th amendment) are about having government "back off" from the citizens, granting them more freedom. This amendment would actually be a step in the other direction, adding restrictions on our freedoms (as would any marriage amendment).

Exactly. This creates bigger and bigger government, something conservatives should be repulsed by.

They love big government when it "does good".

Abortion is a tragedy in my opinion, but government isn't effective at regulating it or preventing it. Other avenues must be explored instead of government.

I agree. The federal government should have no role in regulating abortion. I do think there is some room for states to curtail abortions, but it probably falls within the second trimester with exceptions for the health/life of the mother. That's basically what we have now. I am personally repulsed by abortion, so it pains me to say that. However, it would be a bureaucratic nightmare to try to regulate any further.

Harry Browne had it right. He said that if you turn abortion over to government to regulate totally, before long, men would be having abortions.
I miss Harry. Have you ever read "Why Government Doesn't Work"? It's one of the easiest and most interesting reads I have.

Can you imagine the Department of Fetus Follow Up? Bureaucrats coming to your door every month to check and make sure your registered pregnancy is still on schedule. If not, you will be taken in for questioning until you're cleared of wrong doing.
Fell down the stairs and miscarried? That might have been intentional and will require a hearing.

Isn't it the primary role of government to protect her citizens?

so if anti-choice means against abortion, pro choice must mean pro abortion.
