I put this up in Garers thread on the subject. This is aimed at him and not necessarily anyone else-
This isnt the first time I have noticed it, but you have absolutely no idea what you are talking about.
A managers job is to manage the team over the schedule, not necessarily an individual game. You cant just look at what you are doing in 1 game and pretend that everything else that has happened or that you are planning to happen doesnt matter. In short, you cant manage with blinders on which is what you are suggesting Sveum to do.
Germano this season has been up and down on his pitch counts with the Red Sox who were trying to limit him to 100. Germano also didnt pitch for a solid part of July because of the issue with his release/trade. The Cubs are slowly ramping him back up to 100 pitches in a game. You just cant throw someone to the wind and expect them to go from a period of relative inactivity to throwing 125 pitches in a game without causing arm damage.
5/30 90 pitches
6/5 67
6/10 108
6/15 76
6/20 87
6/25 103
6/30 105
Break
7/7 84
2 week break for waivers
7/21 43
7/30 65
8/5 77
I would really not like to tear his arm off at this point as he has done a good job for us in the short time he has been with us.
You should really think about stuff before you post. I know its "cool" to be critical of the Cubs and all for some of you, but there is an element of realism you are missing.
I would also suggest that when Garza gets fired back up here in a few days time that you miss watching that game on TV or on your computer. I would be shocked if they let him throw more than 75 also.
