Iran is in Israel gunsights. What are the ramifications for us? Also, why am I asking this board?

**Also, why am I asking this board?**

Because you know that that there are learned intellectuals on this board and you value their opinion. So here's my opinion to your first question: bad.

Bush screwed up with the fairy tale "WMD" fiasco. Iran and Iraq kept each other in check.....

Bad, and it will be bad for Israel too.....right now the whole
middle East is not on Iran's side but if Israel were to attack
they would be, and than we either have to get involved or
let Israel go up in flames......I think too many people are getting
worked up and could cause a huge mess.....many countries have
the bomb but we are the only one that has ever used it....some of
these hate people as much or more than Iran hates Israel, if Israel
were to attack without Iran doing something first, get would be a
real mess......

It would be bad for the US, bad for Israel, and devastating for Iran.

If Iran gets a nuke, it would be much worse though.

"If Iran gets a nuke, it would be much worse though."

It's only devastating if they use it. And they know this, so why would they?

They'll be just another crackpot nation with a crazy powerful weapon that they'll never use.

I don't think they will use it either, but once they get one they become much more difficult to contain, and much more difficult to attack, which means a huge increase in their state-sponsored terrorist activitites.

I'm not interested in "containing" any other countries. Russia tried that and it bankrupted them and we're quickly heading down the same path.

But you do have an excellent point regarding their state sponsored terrorist activities and our ability to retaliate.

It depends on what you want to accomplish.

Just saying something would be bad or good isn't always possible.

I can't necessarily say it would be bad. It certainly would be tough though.

There is a level of knowledge that the common citizen is not privy to. I believe Iran would be a pitched battle, moreso than Iraq. We certainly would win the major battles, but the guerilla war afterwards would be rough. We know a lot more about guerilla warefare in the middle east now.

Bottom line is we would win, but pay a price. We had better accomplish what we need to.

for you, it will be very bad assuming you aren't in one of these fields:

media
banking (we're talking global banking, not mom and pop mississippi corner bank)
defense contracting

IMO obama wants an israeli attack JUST this side of the election. The US population always rallies around our "leader" at that critical time. I know...tough to call obama our leader...But it will get obama votes...which is the most important thing in his world. Anything for votes.

I'm impressed, you have FINALLY figured out how politics works. Both sides of the aisle would sell out their mothers if it got them elected.

You're right. Matter of degree. We have a narcissist in the WH. And, no, not all presidents have been this wacky.

We get very little oil from that Strait. Makes me wonder why we're even there in the first place.
