Reds prospect Billy Hamilton has 96 steals in 75 games this year at High-A Bakersfield.

The minor league single-season record is 145 steals, so there's a realistic chance he'll break the all-time mark. Hamilton, 21, is hitting .330 in the California League and currently in the midst of a 14-game hit streak. Considered one of the fastest players in baseball, he should continue to rise steadily through the Reds' farm system.

If he translates that to MLB, LOOKOUT; he'll be one of the most fearsome weapons in all the league. That's outta sight if he breaks the record and as you pointed out, he is well on his way!

I know you said that with your tongue firmly planted in your cheek.... and you also realize (I hope) that MOST poster here are fully aware of what speed like that can do once on base... and there's the kicker.... once on base.

Point made and I agree... it IS as if he steals 1B... and for what it's worth I do believe he needs a bit more PT .... as 23 said - he needs to keep the ball on the ground all the time... I'd love for him to learn how to slap it over the 3Bmans' head though....

A career has to be about more than speed... but there are more than a couple of guys in the HOF that used it as a big part of their game... Harmon Killebrew for example ;)

He has a .869 OPS - that's not brutal for a supposedly light hitting/speedster shortstop.
