I have come to the experts for some advice on buying a gaming system. This is for an 11 year old girl's birthday.

The only thing I know is that there is X box, Playstation and Nintendo. Other than that, haven't a clue. Which one should I buy????

Lowest priced and trendy - Nintendo Wii
xbox - xBox live capability to enable to interact with other gamers, but 11 year old girls likely could not care less about it and therefore irrelevant
PS3 - Blu Ray capability - (but also most expensive)

Reason - she can bring it with her wherever she wants to. The consoles you mentioned, cannot be carried outside her house with her. Also, she can listen to music with it.

If you get her a gaming console her parents will also be required to buy games for her but there are a plenty of free (or near free) quality games for the iPod touch and she can surf the internet and write emails wherever there is Wi-Fi (StarBucks, her house, public libraries, Tim Hortons locations)

I just checked BestBuy website and if you want to choose the option with least financial investment, Wii is the one at $149

I feel any option stated above might be a really fine option except the xBox in which I see no particular benefits

Thanks for the advice, but she already has the Ipod. This girl was sitting on my lap at 18 months and could open files on the computer and play her alphabet games.

So now I am stuck trying to find a gift.

The wii might be good for someone her age. The wii actually requires physical movements. For example, if it is a baseball game you would swing the controller like you would a bat. It really depends on your daughter though, some kids like that, others don't. Not really much difference between Xbox and ps3, other than the fact that the ps3 has a blue ray player.

Is there that much difference as far as playing games between the Wii and the PS or Xbox?

agreed the game is amazing.

11 year old girls are much more likely fascinated by the Wii because it requires the gamer to use her entire body whereas with xBox and PS3 you just sit down and press buttons on a little control.

If she already has Wii then why not buy her Wii games instead of another console?

You could get her an individual game for the Wii. There are hundreds, so you could surely find one that greatly interests her.

The Wii is more hands on I would say unless you buy Kinect for X-Box or PS Move (which I'm not sure if it's very good).

PS3 and X-Box have far superior graphics than the Wii, and most of their games are also better (depends on what she likes). Both X-Box and PS3 have good exclusives, including the Show for PS3 (far better than the competition MLB 2K12). If she's a gamer then I would recommend looking more into the X-Box and PS3 for when she's older to get more "mature" games.

I don't know about gaming, but she is a straight A student, that skipped a grade, so I am trying to find something suitable.

I have two grands, and I normally don't spend that much for a birthday gift. But the other granddaughter is nuts and I mean nuts about Justin Bieber. Well he is coming to Vancouver, so I bought her tickets to the concert for her birthday.

So what I spend for one, I spend for the other.

Of course, the worst part is now I have to take her to the concert. LOL
