    • Ron Washington's snub

I thought that LaRussa's snub of Cueto was bad. However Ron Washington's snub or Weaver is even worse. He not only put Verlander as opener, followed by Price.

Washington selected Verlander over Angels ace and three-time All-Star Jered Weaver, last year’s starter. This season, Weaver is 10-1 with a major league-leading 1.96 ERA. He threw a no-hitter on May 2 but went on the disabled list with a lower back strain.

Weaver collected his fourth consecutive victory since coming off the disabled list with a three-hit shutout in eight innings of work on Saturday against Baltimore.

With the effort, Weaver joined Hall of Famer Sandy Koufax as only the second pitcher since 1950 to take 10-plus wins with an ERA under 2.00 to the All-Star break in consecutive seasons.

Bad show Ron Washington.

I do not get verlander starting over Weaver at all. I know Weaver just pitched on saturday, but heck give him the start and let him pitch to one batter. Then again it is Fox television who has never seen an east coast team it did not like so they might of put their two cents in on Verlander.

I just don't think it matters that much. He got to start last year in place of Verlander who had pitched on Sunday. I doubt he cares whether he is slotted 2nd, 3rd or 4th as long as he gets to throw an inning.

If the Angels were in the World series last year. ( thanks to Scioscia) Weaver would be starting tonight.

Yeah in the grand scale you are right in that it does not matter much unless if you are like me you remember the All Star games of the 70's and 80's. It was a big deal who started. Today we have rumors of Cain starting due to Posey and the Giants organization not wanting him to catch a knuckler. Money and TV is the reality I guess. I mean does Fox want to promote Verlander's 100 mph fastball or Weaver's 85-88 fastball that leaves batters tied in knots. No way 20 years ago would a 10-1 and 12-1 pitcher both leading their respected leagues in ERA not match up in an All Star game unless they had pitched on sunday.

I understand the decision completely. Both Verlander and Price will be pitching on 5 days rest. Weaver only 2 days rest. I wouldn't be surprised to see Verlander pitch 2 innings followed by Price for 2 innings.

The starter usually pitches 2 innings. I am hoping Weave pitches 1, with the AL comfortably ahead, and does it in 1-2-3 fashion on 10 or less pitches.

I still think it is a big deal who starts - Met fans are going crazy because Dickey isn't starting. But Weaver did get to start last year. I also would be happy with only 1 inning - particularly since the Angels rotation has imploded. I think it is valid point that Posey has never caught a knuckler. It is definitely a learned skill.

With Weaver not starting I actually hope he does not go at all tonight so he can start friday in New York.

Don't count on it. I think Weaver WANTS to contribute in this game. He is a competitor.

Weaver on two days rest? Washington would be doing us a huge favor by not pitching Weaver at all.

CJ and Weaver would be fresh for this weekend against the Yankees. Good by me. the AS game is a joke anyway.

R.A. Dickey should probably be starting. He's had the best run out of any pitcher this season. On top of that, why not screw up everyone's timing by throwing out a knuckleballer in the first inning, then a fireballer the 2nd inning.

Thanks for the post telling Angels fans all this stuff they didn't already know.

Did you really think we were unaware of all of this?

Thanks so much for giving us Weaver's win/loss record and ERA. Without your info we wouldn't have known.
