According to mlbrumors, a Bourjos and Hamels trade is starting to come to fruition . I wonder if a Santana/Bourjos package maybe a possibility

Jon Morosi ‏@jonmorosi
With Victorino headed for free agency, Bourjos likely would intrigue the ‪#Phillies‬ in any Hamels talks.

Looks to me like Morosi's merely speculating.

Santana and Bourjos for Hamels?? Your kidding right.. I do like the Angels as trading partners for the Phillies, but not for Santana.. I would take a deal of Peter Bourjos, Garrett Richards, and Luis Jimenez for Cole Hamels. That might work.. If a deal does get done with any team, it will be for young guys under team control for many years..

Hamels walks after this season...he is a rental and not worth all that talent.

Actually, I think he will end up with the Angels no matter what.. I see them signing Hamels to a 7 year 170 million dollar deal.. They will have the money and that would give them the best 1-2-3 in all of baseball. I just think it makes sence for the Angels to trade for him and get him in and around the other players just to let him see how good it could be..

I'm not even sure Hamels is worth Bourjos. I figure the Angels would offer Hamels the $12-13M it would take to get a supplemental first round draft pick but is 3 months of Hamels and that pick worth 4 years and 3 months of Bourjos?

< They will have the money >

I don't think they do. They already have around $93 million committed, not counting arbitration raises for Callaspo, Williams, Morales, and Bobby Wilson. They also need to replace Hawkins, Isringhausen, and Takahashi.

Under the new CBA, any team acquiring a player mid season via trade won't be eligible for draft pick compensation if that player leaves via free agency the following winter.

IMO low cost options like Kevin Millwood (don't laugh he pitched well vs the Rangers this season) or J. Guthrie are more realistic targets for Dipoto

Agree, why would you trade Richards, you'll still be stuck with either Santana/Haren starting.
People who keep insisting we hang on to Boujos don't realize we're stuck with Wells, and for the next two seasons it will be an outfield of Wells, Trout, and Trumbo, with Calhoun in reserve.

Agree. Short term rental is not worth a player like Bourjos. The only way Hamels comes here is a muti-player trade but Phillies do not have what we need so that is a moot point.

Any reason why we would trade two major league players and a 3B prospect for a rental? Now a trade contingent upon us signing Hammel to an extension would increase the value of what we would give you. But at this point, I really think Richards is out of the question.

I don't think Hamels would get 7yr/$170 here. Way over priced at that. 6yr/$114 might be our maximum.

"6yr/$114 might be our maximum."

He'll get way more then that from the Dodgers. Those guys just spent $42M on a prospect that many scouts thought had 3rd round talent. Magic and co. are itching to make a huge splash next year. Also, I just don't see us signing Hamels in the off-season simply because his deal would dwarf what we're paying Weaver and Wilson.

I like Hamels. Don't have anything against him, but I just don't think he's worth what he'll be asking. Maybe we can get someone at a more reasonable price. But as with everything, it will depend on the market.

Bro, we can add Morales to the deal and there's no way he declines that!

If Hamels is open to signing an extension, then go ahead and trade Bourjos and Richards...Hamels is a stellar pitcher and So Cal guy who would probably welcome an opportunity to pitch close to home. Then again he could be driven to test the FA market and try to get max money. As a side note, will we offer any pitcher more than Weaver's deal in the near future?
