When a company has some issue with a candidate that is not anything they do not want to mention any excuse is made.

And this is a perfect example of why, 15 years ago, I decided to major in Y. I could already see back then that a degree X wasn't going to get me anywhere.

Joe, the hiring process boggles my mind as well. I'm looking at it from the other side of the table .. as an applicant. I've a biology degree (basically a pre-med d@mn hard one to obtain). I've worked hard since I was 16 .. all sorts of various jobs. I'm now 30, well spoken, present myself well, and (not to brag) excell at pretty much anything I set my mind to. However, because I don't fit "perfect" into any job openings. I'm currently employed in a position that requires no education or work experience.

Ya can thank the US Corporations in general for that.......but hey, be thankful ya got a job.
Good luck with that.

Odd Bless America.

I'm currently looking right now, and I'm seeing the same thing. I'd take your analogy a step further, though. I've found a lot of places aren't even looking for the perfect candidate, they're looking for a mythical candidate. They want a left handed pitcher for cheap with a great ERA who also throws right handed and can play third base. I'm kind of amazed that people are getting hired. And it's not because there are people over seas with those skills, it is that the skills they want don't make a lot of sense together, so nobody will have them. I've also seen a number where the hiring manager wants one thing, but it makes no sense for the position they're trying to fill.

If the applicant is too old or if the applicant is not female or if the applicant has anything the perspective employer does not find in political liking they simply make up a reason to exclude.

This has been happening a long time.

new technology innovations must have really changed your tasks/ job/career a lot -- from opening the mail and filing it, to e-mail and printing it out. still pretty stressful though, huhn

I'm basically a telemarketer .. I drum up clients via phone and transfer calls to businesses. I'm not embarrassed .. just frustrated.

I've about 8 years sales experience of one sort or another .. So I'm trying to pursue a sales position. At this point I'd take any job though (I've a child on the way Dec 30 and am very concerned how I'll support them properly).

Problem I've run into is that I have a biology degree with no relevant work experience .. and years of sales experience without a formal education in the field.

Thank you for the advice .. and the compliment .. I'd much rather be underemployed than ever sit idle or take a handout.
