Colvin's ability to play a few positions is one of his principle attractions. Just attempting to look at this from a perspective inside the organization, I would have to think that they are figuring they are going to give Helton one more year, so they really don't need to address the first base situation from a full time perspective immediately. The team has bats, they need pitching prospects. Right now, they don't really have much to dangle out there, and if I am a G.M. for the Nationals or Yankees or Red Sox, Colvin is about the only player on this team that interests me, assuming that any sort of deal for Cargo is unlikely. And given O'Dowd's history, I have to be pretty confident I can fleece him with a couple of pitchers that are never going to get west of Tulsa.
