I always thought that the main factor in being a fan of a team was/is civic pride. The Team represents the city to where you live, or in some cases, the state (Rockies, Diamondbacks, Rangers) where you live. I moved to Colorado Springs a year and 10 months ago from the Anaheim/Orange County Area in California, and I want to spend the rest of my days here. Naturally, I am now a die-hard Colorado Springs Sky Sox Fan, win or stink, being they represent my home. Because the Sky Sox are the AAA Affiliate to The Rockies, and the state of Colorado is also my home, that makes me a Rockies Fan as well; and besides, I love Coors Field. Sure, I like it when The Rox-Sox wins, but it won't detour my decision to be a fan either way. About the only thing that would is if the Rox-Sox moved away from Colorado/Colorado Springs, or if the teams did what the Anaheim Angels did in 2005--diss their community and rename themselves after a larger city several miles away. No other team except for The Angels has ever done that, in any sport. I don't see that happening with The Rox-Sox.

I don't think anyone here will pull for another NL West Team; especially not the Giants.

Myself, I will be rooting for the Rangers in the post season. Hope that they clobber the Yankees.

Yeah, that was pretty bad tonight against the ChiSox. Thankfully, they only get one loss for that game, even though they gave up 5 games worth of runs.

Guys, I understand your pain, but just hang tight. You guys are justifiably upset with your teams performance, but you are only a couple short years away from the World Series. You know how fast a season can turn around. This is coming from a life long Royals fan.

There's been too many times to count that I questioned why I would put myself into such utter pain and continue on as a Royals fan when the team and ownership showed no signs of really wanting to be a winner. I mean we haven't been back to the playoffs since we won the World Series in 85'. That's the worst of worst in major league baseball.

I just want you guys to know it's okay to question your teams motives, but don't ever give up completely on your organization. You guys know good baseball and the Rockies have the means to get back to those winning ways. It just takes some patience. Just don't jump off the wagon so quickly. You will feel foolish when things get turned around. Like Kansas City, Colorado is in desperate need of quality pitching. I think you guys have some key youngsters, most notably Pomeranz, that need your support going forward. He's a good one and could be the lynch pin for future Rockie success.

Thank you for your input and being a native Missourian myself I appreciate it. I believe that what really upsets most of the fans on here is the inept GM we have. He has been here for 13 years and the team is worse today than the day he took over. You have an owner that was quoted as saying he was the best GM in the business. They are a room full of self absorbed egos that couldn't build a team if they had a pool of all stars at all positions wanting to come here.

I don't think anyone here is giving up on the team, but we aren't burying our heads in the sand with regards to the shortcomings of the organization. The GM is incompetent and the scouting system is a mess. The owners will profess to their committment to winning while consistantly requiring no accountability for the failure to do so. This team made a number of moves in the offseason ostensibly designed to make the team a contender, but in reality they got fleeced on virtually every one of them. Right now, this team and organization is a LONG way from any return to the World Series.

The mgr does (or should do) more than just manage the product in the field. One man CAN change an org by demanding accountability and fundamental baseball. Instead of Patsy Magoo on a string tied to O'Doofus, a REAL mgr really could change things around here. Maddon speaks his mind and he'd have a lot to say here. Of course our boys don't like having to answer for their actions so I don't know how long he'd last.

To everyone else:

Even though I admire the Rays, the Rox are my team. I want MY team to be a better org, not for some other fad team to win it all. Why not come out strong for the Royals? Orioles? Mariners? Twinkies? Because they aren't front runners? Hmmm

It might actually be a little easier to admire Madden if he would stand up and insist that the organization find some way to get out of that glorified, domed city dump they play in :D

I guess I haven't followed O'Dowd as closely as I should. Have the fans always been this down on the guy or has it been a accumulation of moves over the course of the past couple off seasons?

Being that I'm here in KC. There's a lot of mixed feelings on the job Dayton Moore is doing for the Royals. I personally think Dayton is doing a good job, but is saddled by an owner in David Glass (Walmart) whose trying to squeeze every penny he can out of the franchise. Like Alard Baird before him, Dayton doesn't get to play on the same level playing field as many in baseball. What are O'Dowd's capabilities in being able to go out and sign players in free agency? Does he come up short in terms of being able to evaluate prospects? Dayton has made KC into a farm system juggernaut, but so far Royals fans haven't been able to see the true results at the major league level due to inept pitching. What say you Rox fans? How correctable are the Rockies for the short and long term? Is this a GM issue or a owner issue?

O'Dowds capabilities? None. I wouldn't hire him to park cars. This is not what he has done in the last couple of years but in the last 12. He is a nitwit and has no clue and the support of a clueless owner. Any Rockie fan that is a fan of baseball shouldn't disagree......if they do then they are as clueless as O'Dowd. Keep your ears peeled; one of his best moves was getting Tyler Colvin for Ian Stewart who was batting close to ZERO when he left here. O'Dowd will trade him for some useless pitchers during the all star break. Bank on it.

Right now, the Rockies problems stem from both the GM and the owners. The Monforts are fully aware that they can put 30,000 people in Coors Field every night, so they aren't all that powerfully motivated to pry open their wallets. Dan O'Dowd is competely incompetent, but to listen to the Monforts, he all but invented baseball. But therein is the real problem: There is no accountability in this organization whatsoever.

I WAS A HUGE GIANTS FAN BEFORE THE ROCKIES CAME AROUND - I LOVED WILL CLARK AND KEVIN MITCHELL. I GOT A DONRUSS MVP CARD SIGNED BY WILL CLARK. IT WAS AWESOME. I BECAME A ROCKIES FAN IN 1993 BECAUSE I LIVED IN THE STATE OF COLORADO AND I WAS VERY HAPPY THAT WE HAD A TEAM TO CALL A HOME TEAM. It is a bummer that our owners won't spend any money to make our team good. It is a bummer that our GM is not the brightest crayon in the box either... It is a bummer that our owners are disinterested in the success of the team and unwilling to spend some of the billions that I know they have to push the Rox a little over the edge.

In the year of the fan, the owners and GM don't give a **** about the fans. So that is why I think I should try to watch another team. That is why I should try to see if I can find my childhood love for this sport again by watching a team that is functional and par with other teams.

There is a sad truth though, more and more I don't want to pay attention to baseball. I am sick of teams like the Red Sox and Yankees that have payrolls that are enormous win glory over the little guys... A salary cap and limit is out of the question and this issue still exists - the differentiation of payroll among teams - in lieu of Seligs attempts to level the playing field with his "profit sharing" or whatever it is or was.

Fairness needs to be exacted in the game and across the board - a much bigger problem than the Monforte/O'Dowd dysfunctional baseball team.

Pomeranz is unproven and if he does develop into a quality starter I am convinced he will be traded. Coors field will continue to sell 30,000 tickets a game, fans will be outraged, Monfortes will go home with a bigger pocketbook. History repeats. I am sick of it
